Any interest in Titanium Military Clips?

#1

Post by zeus »

Checking to see what kind of response to having a batch of titanium clips made for Military models. Physically similar, but not black in appearance. If this is something popular, I can communicate further with the maker, if not then I will just have a few made for my own personal use. No idea of prices yet.

I would love to have a couple if they are very close to the same as the factory clips in size and shape.

Sounds interesting, where would they be shipped from?

Would they be 'natural' colour or anodised?

One good thing about ti is that you can heat them and depending on how much heat is used turn them light blue, dark blue, gold, purple.

Shipping would be from the maker in Massachusetts, USA or possibly Southern California if I do a bulk purchase, depending on the response to this post. But I don't really have the resources to handle mailing out a group buy. If the demand is there, good prices and shipping direct from the manufacturer could be accomplished. As far as finish, I do know an industrial metal finishing owner that might be able to do some coating or coloring. I haven't seen him in three years, so visit would be informative. I may have some motorcycle parts to get finished in addition to my clips. They do all kinds of special treatments. Don't know if small stuff will cut it, he likes bulk orders. More to follow....

zeus,
If you get to a point where you want them coated I may be able to help you. I know the Company here in So Calif that does the Gerber, Buck, Timberline, etc TIALN (titanium aluminum nitride) coatings and can get a fairly good deal in bulk.

Let me know --

Slightly OT but...
Will Millie clips be the same size as the ones on the Para-millie? Just wondering if they'd be interchangable.

John J. Thanks, that's a very nice offer!
Do they do DLC (diamond like coating) ?
I find clips and clip screws get the most wear on my knives.

Chux, can't answer on the paramilitary, I'm sure that someone else on the forum can... bet that it is the same clip <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

I will check tomorrow to see if titanium screws are available. I searched the forum but don't find the screw size listed, I'm thinking they are 2-56. Can anyone verify this?

Well, bad news.... Strike one; here is the reply that the maker just sent to me:

Kxxxx,

When I read your first e-mail I was thinking you were somehow connected to Spyderco and were talking about 1000's. As I said we can't make those here at all. I mentioned telling another shop, but they are not set up to make a handful. Sorry for the confusion.

Lxx

That was from Halpern titanium, a link I found on this site.

So looks like I need to send out more inquiries for clips. Hope you all didn't get too excited.....
