Personalised Delica 4 (Black harware and filework)
I was really bored today and decided to make my D4 a little bit more personal.
First was to spray the hardware, now this will rub off over time as it is no premium paint, when I have the cash I will invest in something more durable.
The file work went good, except on the last few, where I applied slightly to much pressure and the pattern is slightly of center near the lock cutout. That was a bit of a bummer, after this I polished the spine to mirror finish (no pictures of that)
So the results
I have been experimenting on my own friction folders with file work, but when I saw Units work in his thread I just had an itch that needed to be scratched. Thanks Unit.

Thanks for the kind words!
I used a round file, diameter was about 1cm. I think with a smaller one a person could get a finer pattern.Cuervo wrote:That looks great Zenith! What kind of files did you use?
Yes I did on the back of the serrations, from years of failed sharpening I had to take of a lot of metal in order to get it sharper, used a benchstone for it and it worked, now however I use polishing wheels on the serrations and it has created a shaving sharp edge :eek:THG wrote:Did you bevel the serrations?

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I got some hammerite today and applied it to a few things, will see how it looks when it dries etc. Should hold much longer then the spray paint I used.

Hi guys. Quick pictures of my bad attempt.
Things I have learned.
1. Preperation of the hardware is important (I did not do this).
2. Apply thin layers at a time, I believe spraying the Hammerite would be the best for this.
3. A Primer should be applied (I cant afford this at this time)
4. So far the Hammerite holds ok, but today is a slow day. Tomorrow should be a real test but I dont expect it to last that great since my prep work was really bad.
There is a learning curve to this type of higher grade paint I feel that I have to get over before I can truly see some better results. I contacted a guy doing cerakoting on knives, truly great work for some tips (http://www.4bushweaponsrefinishingsystems.com/).

Fantastic job!
Question: Did you coat the back side of the clip? I think I would opt to leave it slick...
I would also offer a recommendation to purchase some new screws (either by getting a full lightweight kit or otherwise). Those little screws are great, but they can only make so many trips in and out before they start giving you problems.
Again, Great work....good to see someone learning and succeeding at the same time!

If I could afford a kit I would, I just dont over tighten the screws and take care of them when taking out and putting back in, no loctite as well. So far so good but will keep your advice close at hand when dealing with them.
Yes I did coat the entire clip, no issues going into and out of the pocket so far. It would have irritated me knowing it is not entirely coated.unit wrote:Fantastic job!
