lil temp as EDC

#1

Post by dogrunner »

well, I couldn't stop looking at the Lil Temp (drop point), so I finally bought one. I wanted a sturdy EDC(and potential SD) but with a 3" or less blade. I was worried that the LT would be too chunky to ride comfortably and that my hand would not like it, but decided to take a chance.

My impressions so far: it IS a big little knife - it definitely gets looks when I pull it out. Not as inconspicous as the dragonfly (no surprise) or delica. It rides high on the clip (I mean more seems to stick out of the pocket than my other spydies), but it is very easy to retrieve because of that (is that an MBC feature ?). More people ask what is that attached to your pocket (nosey, eh?). Weight/bulk is NOT a problem. As long as it is clipped and not riding loose in the pocket I barely notice it. It is more noticable than the delica or dragonfly, but then I don't notice them at all.

It is VERY solid, sharp, all those things. Lock seems very strong and easy to use opening or closing.

Handle is a little too big for my hand, especially for the last 2 fingers, but it is still comfortable to handle. (I have small hands).

Overall it seems very capable for any cutting job I might want to do with a folder. For anything else I can always call on its big brother!

Great review. I've carried one as an EDC for about a year now. All my experiences have been positive. I highly recommend one.

It's also a great "traveling" knife. A 3" folder can legally go a lot of places. And this is one serious 3" folder to be able to go with.

If the Golden guys would make a LEFT HANDED version, it might threaten my love affair with the classic Calypso Jr.

I've been carrying my Lil Temp for a couple weeks now and still pretty happy with it. I've been carrying it IWB with clip partly under my belt, to the right of the middle of my back, and as long as there is clothing underneath it, there isn't any rubbing and I don't notice it too much. I decided to carry it there because I was getting more looks than I wanted when it was clipped to front pocket. Still very accessible but seems to be less conspicuous. I even carried it this way a few times when I went for a run and it was surprising unobtrusive (counting on the 440V not to rust from sweat <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> ).
One nit: after carrying it for a few days, the blade pivot loosened up quite a bit. I tightened it down again, but it was a little disconcerting to pull it out one day and have that much blade wobble. It seems to be fine now though.

one thing you should look for is the handle screws loosening up. this happend to mine and I had to go to spyderco to get a couple of new ones. I hent through the hole knife with locktight thread glue, the blue kind that can be cracked if need be. that has solved that problem completely. Overall I love this knife and have traveled many a mile by car with it. It really gives a guy a safe feeling to know its their ready for anything you ask. I have thought a serrated one would be nice but the plain edge more then gets any job done.

thanks for the tip. I should probably do a more complete check. I'm glad to hear others have had positive experience with this knife.
