Bolsters on tacticle models please!

#1

Post by demtek9 »

So I was thinking that the one thing we do not see on Spyderco knives is bolsters. For me, this is one thing I want in a majority of the custom knives I own and use. Its probably a big part of the reason I buy them. Sharp blades are awesome, but cool handles go a long way too. Stainless bolsters are something you see Spyderco put on dress models like Kopa, Kiwi and so on, but what about a bolstered tacticle version?

I'm no fan of stainless steel bolsters, so contrasting syntetics is what I'd love to see. A little silver twill G10 againsts some blue G10. So please put them on something. It would sure dress up a G10 Delica or Endura. I'd love a new model though. Again, please put them on something...anything.

Sound off here if you agree.

TBH I'd rather not, will just make them more expensive and weaker.

Not a fan of bolsters here, plain old black G-10 works for me, and I think it looks good.

i like the idea on some. it would def. have to be a per model consideration. as far as weakness.... i dont buy it. emerson uses them on their customs a lot and if you have the steel liner underneath your blade is gonna break before the bolster IMO.

Might be worth Spyderco trying. Problem would be the usual one, everyone would say "I'd buy it, if only ......". Of course there's always aftermarket customization, which has the advantage of allowing you to get the exact combination of knife, bolsters, and scales you desire. With G-10 Enduras going for cheap right now, that might be fairly cost effective.

Not talking about bolster breaking, rather before you have G10 and liner to support handle, now you cut G10 in half there's only liner left.

For what its worth, bolsters are more of an adornment IMHO. Tactical tools are more or less utilitarian in nature and tend to lean more towards the less is more idea. Bolsters add weight, additional fastners/adhesives, and bling to a knife (to the best of my limited knowledge). Maybe it could be done though...I just imagined a G10 handle with micarta bolsters fitted in with adhesives......That would be something huh?

C'mon Firebat... I once copped a football to the tacticles I wouldn't mind a set of 'bolsters' there now! :D

Hmm, I'm curious as to why a firewall would block an image hosted on my personal website, but maybe attaching it here will work better for you...

I like the looks of that Caly.

Thanks too for the spell check professor.

Looks like there is not much love here, so I have to buy more customs then :)
