To be fake, or not to be fake. That is the question.

A place to list and reference all Spyderco counterfeits, clones, and replicas that are found. Anything that isn't a legitimate Spyderco fits in this area.

take a look at the third pic... whats up with the logo? its a little unusual of a designed logo for spyderco, so that, and the knife shape got me wondering.

The third pic shows the Ed Schempp logo on the back side of the blade. Ed has designed quite a few knives with Sal and his logo appears on all of them as far as I know. The only thing wrong with that auction that I can see is the C105P Mini Persian is not yet discontinued or hard to find. They are currently in stock at the SFO online. The C83P full-size Persian is discontinued and it is rather scarce, but the Mini is still around.

You need to search the forum for "ethnic series". The Shabaria was several years back, but it is genuine.

The first one is a MINI Persian at $115 it is a fair(ish) price currently. If you look around a bit more you can find a few under the $100 mark. I have a few Mini Persians and a fair few more of the Large Persian :p The Large Persian is discontinued, the Mini Persian is still in production. As mentioned this is not a fake - Ed Schempp the designer has a wheat sheaf as his makers mark and it can be found on the obverse/ reverse side of the knife. Ed's designs include the Kris, Barong, Khukri amongst a few others in his Spyderco collaborations.

The Shabaria is part of the Spyderco 'ethnic series' of knives. Designed by Eduard Bradichansky (sp ?) who also designed the Spydercard. Great knife but not to everyone's taste. Very slim handles - the version shown in the link is a CE config. The PE one was also available and fetches a bit more. Both the CE & PE versions have long been discontinued.

To some degree seller is correct. The knife on the picture has a gold bug, current production has it black. I am not sure how many pieces were made with gold bug, not many. If somebody is Persian crazy (like me), than C105 with gold bug is must have and $115 may be not bad. For somebody who needs just any Lil Persian, can get it on e-bay around $85. (IIRC the last was sold for $76, I almost bought it).

My top choices Natives5, Calys, C83 Persian

Exactly! The gold bug version didn't last too long. So, if you're a collector who wants all the variants of Ed's Persian, then it's a "must have" item and, if you "need" one, that price would be well within reason.

Well, he was partially right about the Shabaria. The auction says "G-10" and the handle was Micarta when it was being made.

Simmer down, Nifty, and do some browsing on this site http://www.spydie.nl
