I’ll offer some very brief initial observations on both knives.
Catcherman:
I was a Spyderco fan back in the 90’s but got busy with all kinds of other life stuff and didn’t really come back to the brand until about 2012. The catcherman was no longer available but it was the one knife that I always regretted not getting to try. So I was obviously excited to try it but you know how often the reality of a design that we’ve only seen on the internet doesn’t meet expectations. Well, not this time! The Catcherman meets and exceeds!
From a waterman and fisherman’s perspective, I feel like everything about this knife is just right. Length is perfect. Long enough to pull fillets but still compact enough to fit in a pocket or IWB. Blade thickness is ideal too for a knife that is going to be a multi-purpose/fillet. Even the combo edge is a win IMO. Not something I would normally want on a “fillet” knife, but it is short enough that it doesn’t interfere with fillet work but provides a few nice teeth at the heel of the blade for cutting line, etc. Was it Sal who designed the Catcherman? If so, I think this a pretty incredible design for someone who is not a full time fisherman. Nailed it!
PM2 Salt:
This is one that I wasn’t really sure I would like. I like the PM2 design overall, but I wasn’t sure I would like the handle texture. I was never really a fan of that texture on the Caribbean. The finish was too slick for my use and the angles on the grooves were a bit sharp for my taste. None of that is a concern on the PM2 Salt. I am absolutely in LOVE with this handle! The way they combined peel ply G10 with the deeper machined grooves is awesome. Super comfortable but those big grooves provide WAY more grip in wet and bloody/slimy conditions. Regular peel ply just fills up with fish goo too easily and gets very slippery. The deep relief of the grooves helps dramatically with that. The completely blacked out look is quite beautiful too IMO. And to get all that with the performance of Magnacut is such a huge deal. This knife is a HUGE WIN. I might have to pick up a yellow handle or serrated version too. Thank you Spyderco!!
One question. I’m sure it’s been discussed here but I’ve been out of the loop for awhile. I had some issues with the detent ball corroding on the original Caribbean several years ago. I believe they changed that with a CQI update? Does anyone know what material is being used for the detent ball on the new PM2 Salt? I’m hoping they are using ceramic or some equally non corrosive material now.
they only delivered to the UK and I’m not going back there till mid-2025. Fingers crossed we both get one (or two 
) each from Lamnia at a reasonable price.
It's not quite my cup of tea but I shall be all over a MC PM2 with the satin blade. Despite the hype I am not a fan of magnacut but I am very curious about how that handle feels in my hand. Enjoy your new acquisitions !
