Spyderco 50th Anniversary Knife?
Re: Spyderco 50th Anniversary Knife?
If we put a "50" in the bug, it will be too small to see it. If we make the bug large enough so you can easily see the "50", we'll get complaint that the bugs too big.

Or just engrave a 5 next to the Spyderhole

Re: Spyderco 50th Anniversary Knife?
I love the idea of an engraving on all production models. Or all golden models, in case it is not feasible to have all the makers do this. Much more subtle than some fancy collector's piece and many more customers could participate in the celebration. Collectors still could seek out their favorite commemorative model. Or just buy the entire range if they happen to be dedicated enough ;-)
Re: Spyderco 50th Anniversary Knife?
That would really be challenging to do in any production setting. Trying to guess how many we would need is not possible.

Why not both?
A reasonably priced model, perhaps with a special steel or handle color, made in Golden, with a “5Oth” marking. It’s made for the entire year, and only that year.
And then, the special sprint run collector’s edition, made with Sal and Eric at the height of their powers, with the choice materials and steel, priced at whatever the company needs to charge to make it feasible.
Everyone gets what they want.
And I’m not a graphic artist, but my idea for a “50th” logo would be a 50 where the zero is a perfect circle, representing the SpyderHole, and the bug is in the center.

Re: Spyderco 50th Anniversary Knife?
As just another random thought on "50th" characters... If there were a bolster on the knife and sizing allowed it, the "50th" text could go across the bolster with the pivot as the center of zero. Of course, that text position would likely preclude a clip swap to that location, so tip up carry only.
Re: Spyderco 50th Anniversary Knife?
Maybe, mark all knives made in Golden during that calendar year with a 50th mark. And make a 50th anniversary specific model/make-over for the elite/collector?
Whatever turns you on, cupcake.
Still plays with knives…
Still plays with knives…

No, just do a Delica like before, but with different materials. Let's not make this complicated. A UKPK would be a good idea, as well. Then our brothers and sisters in the UK can have one.

That´s what I´d take then, thanks!
And I may repeat and like more and more the idea of a red, silver and black colored FRN handle for that knife, just like the design on the boxes... but I figure that would be really hard to do and just possible with a lot of effort..
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

Re: Spyderco 50th Anniversary Knife?
Well I was think 4-10 top seller from Spyderco Branded 50th Anniversary would sell well, maybe 500 of each model, not just 50.
Re: Spyderco 50th Anniversary Knife?
How about a k390 military 2 with Spyderco box colors-black with red weave fluted carbon fiber with gold hardware like that used on the Drop’s SG2 Delica and Endura?

I like this idea.

^ The above, but with a black outline around the spyderhole, to underscore it's 50 not 5.

500 of every model is to low. That way it will sell out in the US alone and the international market will get nothing.akapennypincher wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2024 6:27 pmWell I was think 4-10 top seller from Spyderco Branded 50th Anniversary would sell well, maybe 500 of each model, not just 50.

Re: Spyderco 50th Anniversary Knife?
I personally think the show side scale should have a gold colored or brass medallion with 50 on it. Classy and simple. Well simple in looks maybe not in execution.
Stay sharp!
Re: Spyderco 50th Anniversary Knife?
If it’s based on a Delica I think it’s important the 50th Anniversary knife doesn’t come with the Delica’s ubiquitous blade play or lock rock.
Maybe that could be its unique selling point: vg10 / black FRN but with a sprinkle or light dusting of quality control.
