I know. I've read this part over and over again, so I could get more information about this 'spyderco knife' he was talking about. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> Now when somebody says Spyderco, I'm the first to jump up. Now in movies, some knifes just look familliar to me. In Bad Boys one of the badguys had a Civillian in the bathroom of Club ****.

Now back to the point, I read the book again, and he didn't buy a serrated Harpy.

He asked for a Harpy, a straight, serrated Spyderco knife with a blade ten cm's long, and the Spyderco Civillian. Many people mistake on this subject. Maybe I'm wrong but I'm allmost sure he had a non-serrated in the book.

I know for a fact it was a serrated Harpy used in the film. The story I made up about being suprised in seeing my knife on screen, was made up. I knew about it prior to that. But prefered to keep it secret. However since this thread warrants it, I will come clean. All other statements I have made in previous postings are correct.

Sincerely,

Mac

By the Way, how are you so sure it was a Serrated Harpy, used in the movie? Prove me. Please.

*This was when he was back in America, at the gun show, where he observed Donny Barber. Nothing is said about whether the Hapry is serrated or plain.

*The knife he killed Gnocco with in the book was stated as being serrated. However, the knife on the balcony in the movie is a plain edged Harpy.

*Do you thing the Civ was carbon fiber or g10? Just kiddin', who cares.

*I do!

If you are going to lie, just stick with what you said and don't correct it later. Now, we can't believe anything you say.

Book: Serrated, no mention of scales.
Movie: Stainless scales, plainedge blade.

I just sawre this thing last week.

Regards,

~C

As I have stated prior. I am retired from the film industry. I dont like to just come out and say that I was involved in this movie or that movie because I then get asked alot of questions. People seem to think that if you work for the film industry you suddenly know tons of famous people and then they expect you be able to tell them all about those people. That why I usually leave my prior career private. I thought that purhaps this was a responsible group and would respect my position. But since this group does not, I shall take my leave. Believe what you will. It matters not to me. I know the type of knife used because that was the last movie I was involved in. You cant go by the book. The book and the film do not follow each other.

You shall hear from me no more,

Mac

PS: To Hannibal Lecter M.D. Purhaps you should reconsider your nickname. The one you are using is copywrited.

I've been using the nickname since Silence Of The Lambs was out. I haven't been bothered by any film company yet, let alone Sir Anthony Hopkins himself, however that would be an honor!

There's no need for you to leave, just tell the trouth or we have no use listening to your saying.

I have seen the DVD too and taken a screenshot too, it looks un-serated, also when he slices Thomas' throaght. The handle is the silver looking one. How do you call it?

I know this is resurrecting an old thread, but I remember reading somewhere that the actual knife used in the movie was a rubber one - based on an actual Harpy (they thought using the real thing was too dangerous/accident prone). Don't recall if the real one they based it on was SE or PE.

This is way beyond that.

The one seen on screen was a rubber prop with a flat edge for safety and scallops molded into the front so it would appear serrated.

It has actually been going since the 1990's. It has kept going this long through the dedication of Spyderco and the patience of Sal.

This thread is even before my time here in the Forum ( Sept 2004). But the timing may be excellent because this is a great time to bring up the possibility of bringing back the G-10 Harpy. The G-10 Harpy is one of my top 5 all time favorite EDC/users. The G-10 Harpy makes great sense as a comeback candidate.

Also it would be great if the thread were to get my old buddy Hannibal Lecter out of hiding. Yes Sir!! It might just be time for a New Hawkbill and the G-10 Harpy would be perfect!!!

I challenge all of you to try a Harpy as a companion blade to your main EDC folder. The G-10 Harpy is truly a near perfect companion SE folder.

Doctor Lecter I also wish you would come back to Spyderville and help us with this revived thread. Long Live the HARPY!!

Next on my list as I try to resurrect my collection. The G-10 Harpy is the Grail. Don't know if I'll ever be able to find one again. (Still don't understand why Spyderco won't make another G-10 version. I know the first may not have sold well, but I think it would do better today.)
