What about K390 vs Rex for edge stability? Or are they pretty close
Everyone says they're close but I've had K390 roll where Rex 45 chipped. I also think that K390 holds the edge longer. I've got 3 K390 knives and two in Rex 45, pretty light use all around. I do still like Rex45, just not as well as K390.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

You're right: K390 is better at everything... at least from my perspective. REX45 is nice, but it's no K390.

I ended up grabbing a magnacut model. Should be tough enough for my needs and it’s pretty rust proof to boot. Curious to try it out for some time. Maybe I’ll try a K390 Delica later

Love M4, love REX45... K390 is the only steel I've used that was a noticeable improvement over these for fine edge holding, while retaining a similar feel in use and on the stones. I'm no scientist or survivalist BTW, so don't pretend I have data or a cool story to back that up :)

I've beat the crap out of all three in various different knives and I have to agree 👍. K390 is tougher than both, Rex 45 will chip, M4 will roll, K390 will laugh.

In all seriousness though M4 is a bit easier to sharpen than both, even on diamond plates. If polished at a very high grit (as high as 0.1 micron), Rex 45 will take an absolutely unholy level of sharpness beyond what can be achieved with M4 or K390, and it's pretty much 100% fine edge holding. I don't dislike M4 or Rex 45 just because K390 exists, they're different, but I love them all! :smlling-eyes

I wouldn’t mind getting the K390 stretch at some point as a user knife either. Looks like a comfortable handle.

My K390 Stretch makes me wonder why I would even need most of my other knives. It just excels at almost everything.
