Same as usual.

Carried the temperance today. I completely love it. I plan to make a little review thread about it soon. Definitely lived up to my anticipation, easily the most ergonomic hand filling fixed blade handle I’ve felt, it is so fantastic in so many different grips. Great balance, great general-use dropped down leaf blade like on the calys.

I'm surprised how different this version feels from the LW, when the weight difference is only 0.3 oz. Not worse, but definitely different. The LW feels unexpectedly light and nimble, the Salt does not.

Image

Along the lines of Ladybugs question, but more specifically about tip strength: Is the tip of the Stretch XL Salt noticably stouter than on the ffg version? This is what I'd expect (and want in the H2 variant).
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

I know this was meant for warstein, but i can answer atleast for the serrated versions. I dont have a flat ground serrated version to compare it to anymore, but it certainly feels more stout than the last one i held. I beat on mine pretty hard at work yesterday, and no issues or concerns about tip strength.

MY OLD SAGE 5 LW.
I took my Sage 5 lightweight with me for a month's visit to our son and his family. I used it hard without mercy. When I got back home, I scrubbed it clean, reprofiled, oiled. Pow! Good as new.

so the salt feels bulkier and heavier? since the lw also has linerless scales, i imagine the weight difference is completely in the hollow ground blade. is the difference you feel the change in balance? does it feel like it's more capable of harder tasks with the beefier blade?
It's mainly the change in balance, though as soon as I pick up the knife I can feel the weight difference. 0.3 oz is pretty easily detectable in hand, but I didn't expect it to be that noticeable. I might even say that, because their balance is more rearward, the LW and the G-10 feel more similar to me than the LW and the Salt. The Salt feels almost like a different model.

The Salt's blade is much more stout than the LWs, analogous to the difference between the hollow-ground and FFG Pacifics. I might post measurements if I get the time. As much as I like the FFG version, I think the hollow-ground might be the better knife. I'd definitely choose it as a hunting knife, probably over any other knife I own. Even though I like FRN for salty tasks, I wish they'd put this blade in an upscale handle as well. I just love this blade!

All this is said without even opening an envelope or slicing a carrot.

thanks for clarifying. sounds like the reasons i prefer a pacific to an endura, so i'm sure i'll like this one a lot when i can finally pick one up.

Another shot from Harper’s Ferry yesterday, overlooking the Shenandoah. It’s just the reflection of my fingers, but man it looks like a quasar to me.

Not actually in my pocket today, but in the mail on the way back to me.

I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.
