So about the Kahr Delica type/shape?

Post by twinboysdad »

If Kahr is done with the model, and by all accounts they are per Mike Janich- what could be made of the modality? Could we get an FFG with the same blade shape in a non Kahr color? They seemed to sell well but Kahr didn’t see the margins as equitable for a gun company. Is there any way to get some air blown on the coals of a D4 Janich based sub 3” model??

probably not the answer you want, but you could always make your own. i always thought they looked cool, but i prefer the extra blade. i'd definitely want one if i was dealing with a blade length restrictions. in that case though, i'd want one made out of the waved delica. i like the wave and the saber grind.

I’d love to see Spyderco revisit the blade shape. I love the bobbed look and it made the Delica legal to carry in Boston.

In the meantime though, if you do not want go the DIY route, Michael Janich offers modified versions of the Delica 4, the “JanDelica,” through 5x5 Combat Solutions that utilizes the same blade modification found on the Kahr Arms Delica 4.

If you don't want to DIY, you can get the JanDelica from 5x5 linked above. I think Michel Janich does the regrind himself and 5x5 are also good people so it's good to buy from them. There are other alternatives though. Knivesplus sells Delica regrinds in similar shape but FFG: https://www.knivesplus.com/modified-spy ... liffe.html. They also have something similar to JanDelica where the blade is shortened for 2.5" legality: https://www.knivesplus.com/modified-spy ... grind.html. I have also seen regrinds like this occasionally sold on BladeForums. Personally I would not be looking to shorten the blade on a Delica unless it was due to a specific length restriction where I live or work.

I have a Janich 2.5” regrind. It’s a great knife. If you’re looking for one 5x5 sells them and you can throw any scales on there to make it to your liking.

The site says the knife is on back order. Does anybody know how long it takes 5x5 to fill the back orders? I had a Kahr Arms Delica that I regret selling. It’s a really handy design with some serious cutting power.

FWIW I have a knivesplus reground to 2.9”, similar to the one spydergoat linked above. I don’t live in a place with restrictions, I just wanted a version with a slightly less pointy tip. (Even though I’ve never broken a knife tip in my life.) The grind on it is top notch.

That sub $100 price point might be a tall ask, with the base model only barely beating it. But if you do end up finding something readily available, I’d love to know. Always loved the shape, and don’t trust myself doing my own grinding.

Have a Janlica and I like it quite a bit. I get the blade length allowed by Boston law, but it has a handle that fits my hand (more comfortable to me) than knives like the Dragonfly. Big fan.

I grind every JanDelica myself in response to orders from 5x5. They are a small business and can't afford to maintain large volumes of stock, so I do my best to keep a few engraved knives of each model on hand ready to grind. When time allows, I also try to work ahead a bit. However, I am an even smaller business and support 5x5 out of a long friendship and loyalty.

I am shipping 5 ChicagoJimbos, 3 JanDelicas, and 2 Jandelas to Mark today... Maybe reach out to him and ask to be put on a waiting list.

Stay safe,

Mike

I had the same idea, after seeing a picture of the Kahr Arms Delica with an aftermarket wave attachment, so I took a wave Delica to a local custom maker, and had him shorten and reprofile it.

that's cool! if i ever work in a place with those restrictions again, i'd much rather have something like this than a dragonfly like i used to carry. nothing wrong with the df, but i prefer the full handle and as much blade as possible.
