Gotta love the literature that comes with a TRC knife --makes me kind of hesitant to actually put it in my pocket :grin-sweat

Yep, choking up works well for me on this one.

It's impressed me with its out of the box cutting ability so far. It's certainly a stout blade but it has decent geometry all things considered. The raw mass makes certain cuts easier.

I'm gonna have to sand underneath the clip on this and the SR1. Between the sandpaper texture and strong clip tension they're ripping up pockets fast, and I typically have no issues with pocket wear.
the clip is no joke on this one for sure. probably one of the worst i've experienced from cold steel as far as being in the too strong category. it's a hard knife for me to be mad at though. it kind of reminds me of my esee 5. it's obviously very different, but they have that same effect where you take it out to use it and you can't help but feel some joy. that actually makes me want to try the 5max, but i might skip it and get the mayhem or the espada xl i've been putting off for years instead.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.

I should have listened to you going on about the 4max sooner. It's a great fit ergonomically and the color is perfect.

Quite a tank. Opening it up reminded me of the first time I handled a C95. Prior to that the 110 was the tankiest folder I had. Now the 4max one ups the C95.
i'm glad you like it. it certainly is a tank. i don't know if you tried it or not yet, but i also like choking up even though there isn't a choil.

your hands make the 4max look a lot smaller than my hands do. :rofl
I forgot about this knife!!! I have the plain jane one

trail maintenance combo

Bigger saws are faster but the bahco is nice because I can stick it in my pocket and there's no setup like a sven saw. It's taking care of medium sized downed trees that have gotten tough and seasoned.

recon tanto easily chops through saplings, vines, briars etc. while being pretty light & compact. It's my general purpose blade out here.

American Lawman in my pocket, pretty much just there to cut the twine I'm marking the new branches of the main trail with.

American Lawman really surprised me. The 4max and sr1 don't really compare to my Spydies - they're kind of their own thing. But this one immediately made me think of my Native Chiefs. This is about the size of a lil Chief, or Native XL, that people have requested. In many ways it compares favorably to me beloved Chiefs - way better contouring on the scale edges, less blade play, smoother action, thinner in the pocket, shorter clip is better on the ergonomics, and they're much cheaper ($55-75 secondary market, $120ish new for g10/s35vn vs $200 for g10 / s30v chief). Now the Chief still packs more edge, has better pure cutting geometry, is available in more steels / colors / scale options, has the superior opening method, is a little easier to open and close one handed and offers a bit more grip when not choked up.

All in all a very nice folder from Cold Steel, and ridiculously easy to carry with how thin and light it is. The 4Max and SR1 have more fun factor but the Recon 1 and American Lawman seem to be their best EDC models I've tried so far. Still plan to try a Spartan at some point, and maybe a Rajah 6" blade for a dedicated folding chopper.

Love this one. I rarely carry it, but I never sell it either. It's the best Stryker IMO, though I do like the old opener disc model with the liner lock. Need to dig mine out of the safe after seeing this!

Dude the older hollow ground American lawman’s are most excellent! I fully regret selling mine. I tried a newer one probably 3-4 years ango and just couldn’t get along with it… mainly cuz the change was unexpected
