Why Do Seki Models Have Lock Rock??!!
Re: Why Do Seki Models Have Lock Rock??!!
Just received my Native Chief Lightweight. Solid as can be with no lock rock and a fine specimen of a knife.
Re: Why Do Seki Models Have Lock Rock??!!
My personal summary:
- Before applying the way Vivi "tests" lock rock I would have said most of my Seki backlocks are solid without lock rock.
- WHEN really trying to provoke and deliberately look for even ever so slight up and down movement of the blade (regardless from what point on we define this as actual "lock rock") : Each backlock Spyderco I´ve tried in that way has/had some, though some just to the tiniest amount (exception: Chaparral: Rock solid as far as I can perceive it).
- True for both Seki and Golden backlocks, though definitely Sekis tend to have more (though for the record: I guess I´ve only owned four Golden backlocks and really used only two)
- NONE of my backlock Spydies - Seki, Taichung (Chap) or Golden has/had or has developed an amount of "lock rock" that would bother me, let alone come even close to a "safety issue" - and I have been using many, and a lot and I guess "hard"...

If we don't agree, then how can there be an agreed upon definition of excessive? lol.
I posted before I could cut an apple in half with a C95 and feel lock rock. So is an apple where the line is drawn? What diameter apple are we talkin here?

I honestly can’t tell if you’re just trolling me or not.

Maybe buy your knives in Australia. Ours don't have any lock rock.

Why do these locks rock?
Probably to give us something to complain about.

Let´s keep it complicated:
Some locks rock... but still none gives me anything to complain about anyway...

I’m recently picked up a Salt 2, Pacific salt and Delica and all of them do not have any lock rock.

Re: Why Do Seki Models Have Lock Rock??!!
I have a dozen or so Seki blades, and I don't have any with 'lock rock'
Re: Why Do Seki Models Have Lock Rock??!!
Seki City Spydercos appear to be a bit of a lottery when it comes to quality control these days. I think even Maniago have surpassed them in this area now.
I have a Delica with a small degree of lock rock but quite pronounced sideways play (yes the pivot is tight). Some day maybe Seki will bring their QC in line with Golden or Taichung levels.

Re: Why Do Seki Models Have Lock Rock??!!
Because rock and roll. The knives are made to rock and the steel won’t chip but roll.
Just one more knife...
