Very cool Vivi, looks like the type of folder you can really bare down on and it has my favorite type of lock…I don’t know if you’ve ever watched the show ALONE but if I were ever on it I would definitely bring an SRK 💪👊

Got rid of all my MBKs a while ago. Got a good deal on the secondary for the new MBK button lock ezc or whatever it’s called. Probably the best action I’ve ever had on a knife, even a Shiro 😱

Got this Inkosi Insingo in a few days ago, been really enjoying it. Took some patience to find a left handed one, and as a bonus it's a new one in MagnaCut. Bit beefier than what I usually carry, but the Inkosi is just so cool and well made. It's a fun change of pace for me.

Magnacut large Inkosi here too.

I got rid of the factory bevel today. Magnacut on the CRK's continues to impress me (not the factory bevels/edges, but the subsequent ones).

So far Magnacut holds a grabby edge well for me, it sharpens and deburrs stupidly easy, and takes an extermely fine edge without effort. This one is tree topping arm hair after an EP 600 diamond edge and a tiny SM medium micro. Impressive all-round steel. 👍👍

That Knivesshipfree exclusive is so nice! If I didn't already have an Inkosi, I'd go for that! Il surprised last I checked they were sitting around for a bit. Must be the price.

Same Rick. I think it is the price because that is a sweet exclusive. I really like red and burgundy and micarta and the Inkosi and the Insingo blade. Fantastic knife.

when you walk out into the snowy woods and you don't want to carry a belt knife, you carry a real just in case knife...

I should have listened to you going on about the 4max sooner. It's a great fit ergonomically and the color is perfect.

Quite a tank. Opening it up reminded me of the first time I handled a C95. Prior to that the 110 was the tankiest folder I had. Now the 4max one ups the C95.

Looks like a very similar grip to the Manix 2 XL.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

It's a pretty similar grip area, though the 4max handle flares down a bit more towards the end.

The recon 1 is even closer. it's not too far off from a choil less lockback manix. I'll post comparison pics with them soon. Got 4 CS folders I'm going to write about soon, and the C95 / Manix XL will be the spyderco comparison I'll use.

i'm glad you like it. it certainly is a tank. i don't know if you tried it or not yet, but i also like choking up even though there isn't a choil.

your hands make the 4max look a lot smaller than my hands do. :rofl

Yep, choking up works well for me on this one.

It's impressed me with its out of the box cutting ability so far. It's certainly a stout blade but it has decent geometry all things considered. The raw mass makes certain cuts easier.

I'm gonna have to sand underneath the clip on this and the SR1. Between the sandpaper texture and strong clip tension they're ripping up pockets fast, and I typically have no issues with pocket wear.

I agree, the glass blast with the red linen micarta is a very pretty combo IMO. I've seen a few of them come with Magnacut, but some are still S45VN, which seem to be selling slower. They get new stock in every few weeks it seems.

After using both S45VN and Magnacut I've made up my mind that I prefer Magnacut by far. It is harder, tougher, more corrosion resistant, and I get a better/sharper edge using the same tools and methods with less effort than S45VN. I'll most likely not buy another S45VN CRK.

grabbed this for $25 to compare to the $50 Victorinox chef knives I'm familiar with. It's from cold steel...10" blade.

Took a great edge off the sharpmaker, 15dps going from diamonds to fine. Handle is more comfortable too.

Image

Curious about edge longevity and steel hardness. The Vics are really solid knives all around but their edge stability and edge holding kind of suck. They lose that freshly sharpened bite fast. Hoping this does a bit better.
Doing pretty good so far.

Pros:

- Slightly better ergos than most chef knives under $50. Handle feels sized more for me (larger hands) than general population.

- Grippy handle texture is nice.

- Takes a good edge and holds it pretty well. Edge holding isn't amazing but it's a touch better than Victorinox, Dexter Russell, Cozzini etc. Which is all I was hoping for.

- Takes a really sharp apex easily.

- Thicker 3mm spine makes for a stiffer blade, which is nice for certain cuts.

Still running it at 15dps for now. Touching it up with the fine rods on the sharpmaker.

Now for the cons:

- Heel isn't flat. That's what I'm used to. Having a heel that comes up 1-2mm from the straight part of the edge can make certain cuts more difficult, like getting a clean juilienne cut on large onions.

- that 3mm thick blade usually doesn't induce extra drag thanks to the nice grind, but every once in a while it'll be noticeable vs a 2mm chefs.

All in all it handles well and is half the price of the now $60-70 Victorinox fibrox 10" chef knife. The Cold steel was $25 on sale, typically $30.

I just used it today to mince 3lbs of rosemary then juilienne 25lbs of red onions and it's still shaving sharp. Works for me for a beater chefs.

First time installing a deer proof fence for a customer that couldn’t keep a plant and I used the SRK-C to wack, pack and stack saplings in the way…it’s amazing what you’re willing to put a $25 dollar knife through 😳

Gotta love the literature that comes with a TRC knife --makes me kind of hesitant to actually put it in my pocket :grin-sweat
