You can’t be serious. This was the worst internet customer experience I’ve ever encountered. This was not their first rodeo, yet Spydie fans allow this to repeatedly happen.
I believe this was the first online 2nds sale. This isn't a black friday sale, this is the company doing us a solid instead of dumping this on some reseller that will mark this stuff up. It's previously only been in person at the factory in Golden.

The very first online seconds sale was in 2020, and it wasn't this bad. This is already the third iteration of this event.

I could also get something - better said the rest nobody wanted. But at least something.
So it was much better than last time.

I think the changes for European are quite small because of the connection latency...

Erion, just out of curiosity, what would prompt that response from someone with under 50 posts to someone with over 12,000? It seems out of line.
What does post count have to do with anything. Erion is right, Spyderco's strong suit isn't running websites or selling stuff direct. This was a frustrating experience. That's ok, I think he just doesn't understand the context. But let's be real, Sal saying the website was down because "thousands of people" were accessing it is all you really need to see here. Spyderco.com apparently is not run with the idea of handling real traffic. It normally doesn't have to because Spyderco.com doesn't sell knives at street price so there's not many people ordering knives direct.

I didn't end up buying anything (still hemming and hawing about an Aqua Salt) but if you're tight on cash and really want a deal on a Spyderco I could see being really disappointed with how this went.
Dude, he called him a b*** washer.

That said, I believe he was just frustrated like many others, and it wasn't a huge deal. But now you know what it had to do with anything instead of coming at me about it. K?

LOL. Ok that’s a crackup. I contend post count has nothing to do with it — not acceptable no matter the number.

I would just ban people like that on the spot. They never seem to straighten out…

Thank you @TazKristi for editing that guy's comments. I would have torn into him but you got it before I saw it. I appreciate all you do.

Same here. The stuff that is left when the site finally works is the ones nobody wants.
And i am no tech guy but i do believe what you say about Europe is true.
And we have no real chance of getting anything worth it unless you have lottery winning luck on you’re side. I hope they change the event in the future. Either they do 1 shopping cart per customer stuff or they split up the stock in multiple batches so everyone can have more chance to get the stuff everybody wants.

Crazy to think how you were able to order one thing let alone so many, my phone was taking 1-2 hours to load one page (did a bit better but the VPN error blocked me from check out). Mysteries of the internet I guess. Hope there is some neat stuff in the box.

I tried off and on as well. For about 5 hours. Gave up and started poking around dealers to scratch that Spydie itch and scored an SE K390 Delica for just $77 shipped at WhiteMountain. Im pretty happy with how it worked out.
:bug-red-white
You are going to like that Delica. Did you get the PE or the SE?
I got a serrated one. I’m gonna absolutely love it! Should make for a great house/garage/yard knife.

It took 4 orders to get those items. It was a struggle but worth it. I am so sorry for those that could not get through. I could not possibly count the times I hit refresh on my laptop.

You can’t be serious. This was the worst internet customer experience I’ve ever encountered. This was not their first rodeo, yet Spydie fans allow this to repeatedly happen.

.
Try to imagine it as a Black Friday event, The servers were swamped by people trying to get in and they can only handle a finite volume before the system starts slow down.
Just my take. Have a blessed day.

People need to not let their enthusiasm for the brand cloud their critical judgment. This was a terrible customer experience and there is no counter argument. If the infrastructure cannot handle the load of previous sales, then why would they go on social media and get even more people to hit the site?

Simple solution (as others have said) is to just release small batches of seconds on the site repeatedly throughout the year. Obviously keeping a significant portion for real, in-person Seconds Sale.

For those who say I should be more thankful to Spyderco, well I say that I have been thankful to Spyderco in the only way that matters, by purchasing thousands and thousands of dollars of new product from Spyderco. Very few seconds and used, but new from dealers. New purchases help the brand, not the other two.

At the end of the day, this relationship is a business relationship. While we are not owed a second or any other product, I think we are all owed a proper customer experience.
