Your running knife?

Quick question, for those runners, is an H1 or LC200 or similar a requirement? Would K390 be okay? I don't have any issues with rust on EDC. Looking at either P Salt 2 or an Endura K390. Of course I'd rinse off either after a run, but thinking a 30-ish minute run isn't a long exposure time for a K390. Thoughts, experiences welcome.

Running knives get their corrosion resistance tested far more than their edge holding. It's a running knife, not a breaking down cardboard at your warehouse job knife.

K390 is an excellent steel but it's the wrong steel for this specific application.

Rust proof isn't a requirement, but you'll save so much time in maintenance, other choices don't make sense. For me, a single run will spot VG10 (Granted, my runs are much longer than 30 minutes)

I got my fill of running cross country in high school. So I run with whatever knife I’m carrying when I have a legitimate reason to run. As in, away from something. But when I know I’m going to sweat like a pig, I reach for something in Cruwear or a salt.

Those are two completely different choices, with no common characteristics apart from them both being steels ^^

The common characteristic is that I own them both and Cruwear is much less reactive for me than REX45 or M4. It handles the sweaty stuff well enough. Besides I thought it would be entertaining to throw that little grenade into a 5-page thread on what knife to carry when running.

For purely running without stopping to bushcraft up a Fred Flintstone car or defending yourself from the mongol hordes or pack of hyenas, a dragonfly salt would probably be perfect. It satisfies “have a knife” and it’s very light so should have plenty of retention, and you’re very rarely going to use it while exercising.

I cycled to work and fun for a number of years in college. Worked in a bike shop to give you an idea of the level of commitment to riding. During all of that time my single EDC was a Spyderco Worker clipped to my waistband in soccer short or bike shorts. It never rusted, and I never lost it.

Your personal body chemistry is going to play a big part in what steel will work for you. My best man’s dad destroys leather steering wheels, I can only imagine what he does to steel.

I often carry an XHP Chaparral iwb next to skin when running... several hours, lots of sweat, rain, snow... no corrosion issues at all.

Same here, no corrosion, though for me the Chap is my walking knife. Ya need to have a different knife for each activity, naturally.

I'm only half kidding. I almost always have a Chap on me. I often wear a very small, light, stretchy runner's belt under my shirt that has just enough room to hold phone, credit cards, and clipless Chap very close to the body.

Carving a Fred Flintstone car on a run is just silly, because then it wouldn't be a run, it would be a ride. But I do worry about the Mongol hordes and hyenas here in So. Calif, which is why I try to run with at least a 3" blade. (That, and the fact that my wife won't share her D'fly.)
