Am I the only person who likes to age his Spydercos?
I love to acid etch a spydie blade and pocket clip and then sand it off, finishing with 12,000 grit sandpaper. I reassemble the knife and I love the aged look it gives it. Just curious.

Re: Am I the only person who likes to age his Spydercos?
Nope, I prefer to age mine the old fashioned way. By using them.
Re: Am I the only person who likes to age his Spydercos?
Same here.
I do like Spydies (mine, but also generally) more and more the more they show real use by scratches (on clip, blade, handle) dings, "scars", patina, spots on the blade and so on.
That's one of the reasons why I like uncoated tool steels, they show the "life" of a knife, tell a story and give each example a unique look.
Same goes for Micarta- or stainless steel handles, they really show use and "aging"
But key word here is "from real use" which let's a knife age naturally over time
Nothing wrong at all with actually forcing a used look, just not for me.
(Still: I, too, would love to see pics... )

I don't actually do it, but since I like to mod stuff it sounds like something I'd do.

Upload your pics on a site like "Imgur" and then click on the top right of the image on Imgur to copy the BB Code, then post the code here.

I'm the opposite. Never bought a single aftermarket part nor have done a single mod. Guess I'm kinda boring that way. Cheers
Re: Am I the only person who likes to age his Spydercos?
Nope. I've acid etched both a Mantra 3 and a Native 5.
If I get a satin blade, it almost immediately gets acid etched, and maybe stone washed.

Re: Am I the only person who likes to age his Spydercos?
I enjoy watching a patina develop on a good blade through time and solid use but I don’t artificially age one. Everyone has different nuances they enjoy with their collections though. Even if those collections are for hard use or modding as your hobby. I hope that you enjoy your time on the forum. There is a wealth of friendly and informative people around.
Edit: I misread the OPs post the first time.

The entire Spyderco Facebook group would be up your alley - stock knives are immediately rescaled and a patina is put on them
Re: Am I the only person who likes to age his Spydercos?
I didn’t intend to modify my blue P.I.T.S., but after the first obnoxiously noticeable scratch on the soft anodizing, I took some stropping compound to it to blend the blemish. I ended with a nice worn-in full denim color.

I've done a couple blades that I've done. I've used cold gun blue and browning. I think it looks good to get an even finish, and then let it wear down through use.Ezzimist76 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 10:08 pmI love to acid etch a spydie blade and pocket clip and then sand it off, finishing with 12,000 grit sandpaper. At least one stainless clip I've put a brushed finish on. For titanium, I like to color anodize it. It's just a fun thing to do.
Got any pics of yours?

I like the broke in /used look but I also hate a damaged knife .

Me too. Guess I’m worried something will go wrong if I try to mess with them haha. I really like the satin finish Spydercos have. Don’t want to change it. But if someone else bought one they can change as they please.Albertaboyscott wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 1:09 pmI'm the opposite. Never bought a single aftermarket part nor have done a single mod. Every once in a while I unintentionally drop a brand new knife on asphalt — instant user knife. Seriously though, I’ve put a vinegar patina on a couple non-stainless blades and it does seem to help corrosion resistance.
