Yes the simplicity of the Salt line, especially those older models are a big selling point for me. Been looking at the Atlantic recently. How do you typically use it and how do you like it? Also anyone know if Spyderco will sell you replacement barrel clips?
Re: H1 Steel Only :)
I mostly use it as a yard work knife. I'm not sure about the barrel clips though.
I don't live in a marine environment, but the climate here is still fairly wet so it's really handy to have rust proof knives for outdoor use.
The H1/H2 Atlantic isn't a great slicer due to the blade geometry, but it's a tough knife, with a tough blade grind, in a really tough steel. IMO the combination really lends itself to outdoor work where it's a given that the edge is gonna come into contact with all kinds of dirt, rocks, gravel, etc, and invariably get dinged up. H1 (and I'm assuming H2) are really easy to sharpen, so it's perfect as a knife that (1) you aren't expecting amazing slicing performance from, and (2) can be brought back up to a decent working edge quickly. I'd imagine it would excel in any uses where those traits are pertinent.
The ergos are also great - it basically feels like a slightly slimmer, FRN version of the PM2. It's one of the easier knives to open I own as well - the thumb hole is large and super accessible.

Thanks! Appreciate the response. I went ahead and ordered a pre-beaten one off of eBay for $45. It’s an older one with pinned pivot and it doesn’t have a clip, but for the price I figure I’d give it a go. That’s exactly the kind of stuff I’ll be using my for as well.

Yeah, you can order replacement clips from SFO. I did that for my Atlantic that I bought used without a clip.

These blades are great! They’re forgiving when you have an “oops” moment.
