Updated Paysan..?

#1

Post by Liquid Cobra »

Seems a new batch of Paysans is dropping with some cqi as per a post on Peters Facebook page:

“If anyone is interested in the updated paysan from spyderco. I may be getting a few. They will have hand signed cases. let me know and I can start a small list. Serious inquiry only please.

Price is not known as of yet. I’d guess similar to last run.

Also, it is updated. Beefier frame and blade and revised details.”

I am wondering if anyone could provide more details?

Can I get a link to the FB post?

I'm sure it's a fine integral framelock, but at $644 --for the unsigned version that will be hitting dealer shelves-- it's way out of my budget.

Are they gonna have some strong detents? I know Taichung is kinda notorious for being weak in that area…

I’d much rather have a Nirvana.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

Interesting to hear there are some updates. This one is typically out of my budget, but I find Peter Rassenti’s designs and creations pretty fascinating.

Spyderco website shows Paysan at MSRP $920. Knifecenter pre-order at $644.

Not worth it.

The Nirvana is a much nicer model.

I bought mine back in 2016 for $432.

I didn't like the Paysan when introduced and didn't buy it. I still wouldn't buy it.

Beefier frame and blade? Hmmm...interesting

One of the things I think is cool about the Paysan is the (already) beefy blade and fairly slim contoured handle. Talk of any changes has me a little nervous. I'm thrilled with the Paysan as it is. I guess I'll have to see how it's changed before passing any judgment

Hard to capture the comparison between handle and blade in a picture. Definitely a knife you need to hold and feel to appreciate. It's like a beast in skinny jeans 😄

As far as the detent goes. Mine's actually just right (IMO) not too weak and not too strong. I have no concern about it opening when it shouldn't. Yes I can shake the blade out but it takes a pretty good swing to do it. With a blade that heavy they'd have to bury the detent ball in the hole to improve and I bet I could still shake the blade out.
Of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most!

I would be VERY interested in this if it didn’t have the dumb spoon clip on it. Spoon clip is great on a $60 delica or manix/pm3/2 but on a $600+ knife? Pass.

I was able to order one yesterday from Spyderco, still unclear though on what has changed. Any new information on this?

These are back in stock at KSF, still at a whopping $644, in case anyone is interested.

This is the swansong of the paysan.
Work has normally already started on its succesor. ( And it will be to your taste )
And boy oh boy if its anything like the custom i have seen last year it will make the paysan look like the the ugly duck of the family. :zany
I am already saving up for it because it will be a pain in the wallet to buy that is for sure...

Hmm... first the Slysz Bowie gets a steel lockface and now the Paysan... the Nirvana would be the next logical choice to CQI given it had such huge issues with lockstick.
