The number of unregistered guests browsing the forum always largely outnumbers the registered members. Always.

I would assume the majority of responses are from people lurking, “guests,” or unregistered users.
interesting. i hadn't thought of that. now it kind of feels like a dinner party we're all having and there's just a few thousand people watching us through the windows.

Hey, Bolster.

Being uninterested in a forum knife, I thought I wouldn’t participate, but then I came back to read this thread and discovered you wanted a response in general. Just finished mine.

Nice survey design.

I look forward to the results.

Well done Bolster! Looking forward to the results! Maybe we will be a little surprised.

Also filled mine out. I wonder how I'll stack up to the average. The questions, by being single choice, were really tough most of the time, forced me to actually consider what my deep-down preferences are instead of recalling recent knife flings ^^

Normally I'd pass on a survey but it is Bolster the old timer. Got to show respect.

The survey is a bit difficult when it seems to assume one has a single set of preferred knife specs in mind, when that isn't the case for me. The Kapara, Lil Temperance 3, Uptern, and Wharncliffe Dragonfly are probably my four favorite Spydercos, and are quite different in size and design.

Perhaps I'm the only one, but I buy Spyderco Forum Knives because they're Spyderco Forum Knives, not because they're a model, edge type, steel, or handle material that I would carry or use. I think it would be desirable to have a Forum Knife that the greatest possible number of members here could both afford and be able to legally purchase but, beyond that, I have no preferences what so ever.

This is the wisest reply i have seen on this forum in a very very long time deacon!
And by the way you are not alone my thoughts are the same.
A forum knife should be accessible for all members. It was up to me (for an example) even a Tenacious would be possible since almost everyone can afford one of those.

Yes but isn’t a knife survey only interesting if you make a forum knife request out of it in the end? Other wise it has zero use since all people like different models.

the stated purpose is to find preferences. my personal preferences are completely separate from how i'd answer for a forum knife. i would answer much like the deacon for a forum knife, but my personal preferences are basically centered around the manix. if you answer for a forum knife, when that's not the intent of the survey, you skew the results.

Bolster is just trying to find groups and statistics on preferences. We see a lot of preferences mentioned throughout the forum, but I think he is trying to get some actual numbers to put in to perspective. Has nothing to do with a forum knife.

The initial Topic title was a little confusing on that, but he changed it for clarity.

I find this survey interesting for a couple of reasons, one of them is that I have preferences that I often feel are deviant from the mean.
This could be real, or it could just be that preferences are so diverse that there isn’t really an identifiable mean, or it could be that people with certain preferences are more vocal.
Seeing where my preferences actually fall compared to the other participants could tell me something about the likelihood of seeing more models and versions that would appeal to me.

I’m also enough of a nerd that I generally enjoy statistics and trends on any topic I have some interest or insight in.

Okay i get what you mean but for me it still is the same result. Since like you i prefer the Manix over anything else in the end my results for this or for a forum knife would always be the same so i did not screw up the results thankfully. :zany

he's got plenty of designs that are just as good, but not better for my hand. so many brilliant sal designs that i love, but eric's manix just happens to be my favorite.
