The new, hot stuff of this knife is the steel.

I think the blade steel is pretty much the only selling point? There's a boatload of ball bearing lock Manix 2's already out there, even in this same exact bland color scheme. The stonewashing seems pretty mild and almost not noticeable. So the blade steel is the only practical difference.

Not saying it's not enough to garner interest, surely we can see it is enough, and I as well am curious to compare it to some of my current favorite steels. I can appreciate the work that has gone into it by all involved parties, and am interested in seeing the results first hand, since I already highly value other steels of similar composition.

But to me the difference from this steel to say the excellent 10V/K390 options we already have isn't worth it at secondary prices, especially since there doesn't even exist a 10V/K390 Manix 2 to be able to compare apples to apples. So hopefully I'll score one at the $158 or whatever, which I think is a good value price point. If not then I'll probably still manage to sleep at night just fine.
REC said they were going to make a Scorpion Manix 2 in the future. Tan G-10, black DLC and 10V steel. I almost did not buy this one holding out for that one but there was just so much hype about this steel. Plus the amount of passion Shaun put into this is pretty great.
Endura AUS-8, Manix 2 S30V, Alcyone BD1N, PM2 Micarta Cruwear, Native 5 Maxamet (2nd), Para 3 Maxamet (2nd), Magnacut Mule, Z-Wear Mule, BBB 15V Manix 2, REC PM3 10V Satin, Dragonfly Salt 2, GB2 M4.

Good to know, that would be cool I'd like to see one, although I'm not really a huge DLC fan. Although I bet it won't be $158, and I'm sure it will be just as if not more difficult to find than this one :winking-tongue

I was in RECs shop today. Asked if they had any Manix 2 sprints, and they said no, they sold their allotment in 30 seconds. He said they may be getting another shipment in, but wasn’t sure. One of the guys was nice enough to go back and check if they held any back, and sure enough he came out with one to sell me! Was surprised and very pumped to walk out with one!

I tried changing the thread title. We'll see if that helps. :zipper

Well that explains why the drop page shows a 404 error now. That must be a record for this knife!

With the 10V/15V series(k390,k294,PmA11) becoming such a popular high hardness steel, I wonder if they will be able to put in the extra emphasis on heat treat as they did this one. I don't like how often the price hikes seem to be hitting us. But I would throw down an extra $20 bill for custom or custom adjacent heat treat. Especially on the Manix. It's always cheaper than the PM2. I just hope that doesn't change. It was my first Spyderco and still is my favorite.

I usually try to clamp near the handle on the flat part. And use the 'bug' as a reference for leveling (I clamp it so both bug legs are level with the clamp, makes it very repeatable).

Is there a picture of this? I'm always thinking of how to keep the clamping consistent

I do it 2 ways depending on blade shape and width.

This is my preferred and is most Repeatable.

(I mark a line with a sharpie so I can see if it slips in the clamp)

I've also done it with the bug lined up with the side of the clamp.

The tape on the handles is so I dont get metal dust in there. I wrap a paper towel around the handle before the tape, so I dont get tape residue.

My surrogate purchase (since I gave up on this Sprint) was a Lil' Native smooth G10/CruWear from KC.
I'd been thinking I wanted to try one, but the upgraded blade steel and lower price finally pushed me over the edge.

it might even arrive for Christmas!?!

...Dang that's a lot of tape!!!!!!!!

I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and uses their 15v for all those presents. I look forward to open more knives with mine. Then cut every box into pieces.

USPS has been slacking. My first order from KNIFEWORKS was lost in L.V. Nevada. Then was found the day after my order with National Knives. Now that order took the scenic route and went straight to New York from Michigan. I live in N.M. 1st world problems.

USPS has been a real poop show for my last few orders..... My Lynch clips went from Washington, to Aurora, CO then down to Phoenix, then came back to Denver, CO and now are out for delivery. Don't even start me on my Grit-o-matic order a week ago....
