Wartstein, I'm with you on the sharpening notch. It's almost comically large and I have had snagging issues every now and then when cutting stuff like cardboard. I wish that they had just done away with it altogether, or as you said, move it back farther and make it smaller.
For me it's not a big issue though, just a minor complaint.
Thanks for the reply.
Yes, for me the notch does disturb a bit the otherwise very nice and "conclusive" design of this knife.
And as always: I think people who even think and care about stuff like "sharpening notch or not" will in the most cases also be people who are capable and willing to give a knife a notch themselves (while of course they could not REMOVE a from-the-factory-notch without severely reducing the blade height)
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)
Have you guys seen the new torino? It has cf scales, and looks awesome.
Yep I saw it. It's a nice variation, although personally I like the "utility" look of the red G-10. What I'd rather see is a longer blade!
I just reread back through this thread. Such great work you did here. I haven't done these kinds of reviews in a while now, but man it sure makes me remember how much work it actually is!
Do you still carry this one very often?
I haven't for a little while, but I still carry and use it. It's a fun knife!
Bump! We need an update on this sir

Oh wow. It's been a while! I haven't been as active around here as I wish I could be. Life, you know...
My EDC rotation has slowed a lot. I've been carrying one knife exclusively for about a month at a time. Earlier this year it was the Shirogorov F95 in Vanax. Now I've been carrying my Byrd Rescue in serrated 8Cr13MoV. At opposite ends of the spectrum, but both are excellent cutting tools.
I will have to make the Torino my next month's carry.

Hey Connor,
Awesome forum post you've got here, I thoroughly enjoyed the read.
Would you be willing to share details on the process that you used to polish up the blade? Any details would be much appreciated!
Thanks! Welcome to the Forum. :)
I used diamond lapping film from Jende Industries, on an acrylic 1x6 Hapstone/Edge Pro block (also from Jende.) I took the blade out and removed the thumbstuds, and then just gently sanded back and forth. Started with 30 micron, then 9, 3, and 1 micron. It took a couple hours all told, but the film cuts surprisingly fast. I also use the film for sharpening, using my Hapstone V7.
