Cool! Exactly this was my first Spyderco! :smlling-eyes
... and still have it, Actually it is my crazy hard use beater model. The sabre grind makes the blade (and the tip) incredibly strong, despite only 2.5 mm blade stock
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):

every once in a while, you need to remind yourself that some $35 knives are just as good for edc as some $200+ knives. Image

I did. I find the PM2 much more comfortable in hand this way.

Wartstein, I'm surprised you never tried to track down one of the cf/zdp Stretch 1's. They were really well made, I owned one at one point.

....

Well, several reasons:

- I am really not much of an collector but try to keep a practical approach: Meaning as few Spydies as possible (these days I know I can´t keep the number down to just ten at each point in time :smirk , but I still try to stay in that ballpark) and rather the most practical versions
- I never could really warm up to CF. I am sure it is a great handle material and never had any problems with the few CF knives I owned. It somehow just does not "connect" with me. Perhaps for me it has that touch of being "modern-fancy" and I prefer "rough and oldschool" or purely practical (like FRN), if this makes any sense.
- I had a ZDP Endura once, and back then thought it was too hard to sharpen for me (these days I think it was actually just taking a lot more TIME to get sharp again than the VG10 I was used too). Also I read back then that it would be somewhat brittle. So i sold it and thought for a long time that ZDP was not for me.
- If the Stretch 1 was still regular production (and I could always get an replacement should need be) I´d be perfectly happy with one VG10 and my HAP40 sprint version (so "just" two pieces). As it is I have - including backups and a CE version - five FRN Stretch 1 anyway (one being heavily used and sharpened away by a pre-owner).
- Now: If I happened to stumble over a CF Stretch 1 and it was not ridiculously overprized.... Admittedly I would still be tempted, no doubt... :smirk

:hushed-face ... you do have a Stretch 1 ?!

Never knew that (or did I just forget?) How do you like it? It´s one of the best folders ever made (when it comes to me even among the top two folders ever made... :beaming-face )
Hello friend ! I bought it when it first came out . I think it is one of the most refined designs ever made by Spyderco. It’s rather rare now so don’t carry it much as I should or want to . I like how it is so thin but still fills your hand very well . I had the Stretch XL Blues today and thought I should enjoy what I already have in collection . Old blade design will always be my favorite , but designs change and move on . Hope you have a great day . MG2
It is indeed!!! And not only "made by Spyderco", but among all the folders in the world... :smlling-eyes - and while it is rather small and compact in carry, it still offers a perfect grip, a choil and more cutting edge than a PM2...

... I think the FRN version has an a bit thicker handle (could be wrong though), at least it has the same thickness as an Endura handle, but is taller and by that more handfilling.
You should really try and get an FRN Stretch 1! They can still be found for reasonable prices - last time I checked (some time ago now already though) both the VG10 and HAP40 version - perhaps you´d like to carry the FRN Stretch 1 more often?

... And yes, I too prefer the "original blade shape", though the "new" straight spine is not a deal breaker at all for me.

Excellent! I have wanted to do the same. Did you use sandpaper and/or files, or a dremel or other power tool? I’ve been thinking a dremel with the router base and a tiny round over bit.

I start off with a dremel and sanding drum to get the basic shape I want and groove on the index finger area. After I get it where I want I finish it by using sandpaper to blend any edges that don’t look right, or stand out. I think I used 220 grit sandpaper.

I used sandpaper to take a slight bit of the edge off the inside corners as well, but not a lot.

I did end up rit dyeing this one afterwards. The sanding sometimes can bring out lighter colors of the g10. The edges looked faded and gray in places, but rit dye brought everything back to black.

It’s amazing to me how much the feel of the PM2 changes with this mod. The knife feels slimmer compared to how blocky it feels to me from factory. I didn’t carry a PM2 much until I rounded the scales off on one. Since then I just love them.

I know it’s not for everyone, but if you like the rounded off feel of the FRN spyderco knives, this brings the g10 PM2 a lot closer to that feel.
