Spydiechef sound blue vs grey

#1

Post by cjk »

This is mainly a curiosity question for those who have handled a normal Spydiechef vs the Knifejoy blue Spydiechef exclusive at the same time. This question came out of another thread where the appeal of the sound of knives with a RIL was briefly discussed.

Are the sounds which the blue and grey Spydiechefs make locking up and closing the same or are they different?

I have the blue one. I suspect that the anodization on it actually changes the sound as it sounds quite a bit different than my other Taichung Reeve integral lock knives (Mantra2, Swayback, several Brouwers), but all of the rest of them also have steel lock interfaces with overtravel stops, so maybe it's not a fair comparison. I suppose the coating on the hardware could contribute to the sound difference too, not to mention the overall designs are quite different.

I would say lock engagement would have a bigger impact on sound than anodizing, as in how far the lock bar engages the tang. The further/deeper the bar seats into the tang I bet has a big impact on the sound it makes.
