I like that it's a pretty rare to find steel! It's very easy to sharpen, seems to love a toothy edge too. Edge retention isn't the greatest though.

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??
I have freshly sharpened M390 today:
What makes it even worse is that, I hadn’t carried this in months but about a week or two ago, I was practicing left handed operation of the lock and dropped it tip-first onto cement.
Unfortunately, nearing the end of the sharpening, I chipped it close to the tip by dropping the aluminum strop base while removing it from the stone holder of my Hapstone V7. :mad:What makes it even worse is that, I hadn’t carried this in months but about a week or two ago, I was practicing left handed operation of the lock and dropped it tip-first onto cement.

Ive always wondered why they chose 52100 instead of some of the various other carbon steels. I suppose id have to try it to understand. I was my understanding that 1095 holds a better edge that 52100.

Giving PE H1 another go. Wanted to compare it head to head to the PE LC200N version.
Still need to put a thinner edge on it. Planning to put the same edge on it I used on my Aqua Salt (200 grit, then stropping with 40 micron).
Touched it up at 20dps on the medium rods until it cleanly shaved.

Spent the week rafting a wild river in the Alaskan interior. My SE Pac Salt was my constant companion and it took everything that environment dished out to it with a smile. Here it is pictured next to a 5” wolf track maybe 2 days old.

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??
Great chop, as always with your work! :)
And actually for me you just created the "better Para 3":
You did not stick to the lines and form that imho work for the PM2, but not so much for the Para 3: So your "Para 3" does not have that "hook" at the handle end that restricts grip area too much on a small knife, and it looks to have a nice, slim carry.... If you'd know could thin down the whole blade to 3 or even 2.5 mm : This would be a model I'd really consider to get! :)
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

Id like to do this with a factory second. Are there any inexpensive ways of getting them outside of buying from the outlet?Wartstein wrote: ↑Fri Jun 25, 2021 11:14 pmGreat chop, as always with your work! :)

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??
After the Kiwi 5 thread, I felt like tossing this one into my pocket for a while and giving my Micro Dyad a break.
How could anyone say no to bolsters and inlay?!
I would love to see a slightly larger Kiwi, glitzed up like it was intended to be. :D
