I was reading David's thread on SE blades and my phone was next to me. I had already created an account at REC so checkout took less than 30 seconds.

Yep, OOS for me, and I was on it.

I got one in my cart but couldn't checkout. This happened with the Lil Native as well, it kept popping up in stock so I'm going to stay optimistic with this one for the next 15 mins or so. I have a feeling I'm out of luck for now though, hopefully I'm quicker next drop. :)

I wish people would just be patient... But I get that drops can be nerve racking if it's something you REALLY want. At the same time... No Shaman is worth double the price. Maybe to a die hard collector, but for me anything 400ish and above has to be a midtech, or custom.

I agree. Something else you “must have “ will always come along. Be patient, like you said. The way I see It, yeah I wanted this Shaman, but I also saved 224 bucks. I’ll put that towards my next “must have.”

The bigger problem is people are paying silly prices for these. Flippers go away when the market for resale decreases. I like the look of the REC blades, but there's no way in **** I am paying 2-3x over retail for one.

Yeah. Not in the mood to tell my wife I dropped 230 plus tax the day she got her second COVID shot. So it prob worked out best this way.

Personally I think dropping this knife at Blade show was a bad idea. Not many people get to make it to the conference. To be fair to everyone the knife should of been released only on the website, to give as many people a chance to buy one as possible.

Like others have stated, I take it as I saved money to use for another knife :)

The email thing is BS instead of a specific release time.

Just with that sample set alone, some people had an 11min head start on others for something that was expected to sell out in minutes anyway.

I have to agree that 8:30 at night for a drop is pretty dumb. I was asleep lol. I had a gut feeling it wasn’t coming my way this time. I love rec but I prefer the way DLT and cutlery shoppe drop knives a lot better.

When I see how fast these exclusives sell out (however funky the color combinations are) - to me it just means that Spyderco is missing a solid material combination in the serial production. And given all the steels (and experience with them) at their disposal it is for me hard to understand that the only steel the normal Shaman can be had in is S30V and black G10 ...

I am perfectly fine with all the exclusives and sprints, nothing wrong with that (I actually find that super cool). But these are mostly aimed at collectors. User should be able to pick a knife in materials that suite the knife well without running after the limited releases. Look at standard Seki models - one can get the basic version in VG10 or go for the performance of K390 - that is a way to go with other utility/use oriented knives like Shaman, Chief, Manix, PM2, P3, etc. ... Yes I know we can't get it all at once and I do see that Spyderco is working to get there. So I hope to see most 'user' knives from Spyderco eventually in some sort of tool steel.
