I used to carry more tactical oriented bags but have since moved to casual packs. For camping or bugout, different packs would be used entirely.
Yeah, I like them a lot. They are made in San Francisco and are very durable and well put together in general. I've had 3 products from them now, the other being an iPad type case and I have no regrets.
Tip: check out their "Garage" section, you can find big discounts on closeout models or last year's colors.

Good to hear, yeah id like to get into more camping, and have looked at these bags on and off for a while just never pulled the trigger, might have to pick up a couple on my next hual from them.vivi wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 10:42 amThey both work great. I plan to buy another one of the smalls. They're quite durable but not too heavy. Lots of straps on the outside for carrying sleeping pads etc.Trav64 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 7:45 amHa yes, a fellow varusteleka lover! Been thinking about gettin one of those packs, do you like yours, has it held up pretty well? Great edc list too!vivi wrote: ↑Thu Jun 03, 2021 3:00 pmhttps://www.varusteleka.com/en/product/ ... pack/34400
Usual load out would be:
- charging supplies
- 10000mah battery
- sawyer tap filter
- water bottle (added a 5.11 water bottle pouch)
- switch + games
- bluetooth speaker
- chef coat, pens, sharpie
- knife roll
- first aid kit
- repair kit
- snacks
- poncho
- leatherman rebar
- cold steel recon tanto
Doubles as a day hike pack too.
I have the large version too. I use it for weekend trips out of state and car camping.
I find the smaller one to be the perfect size for EDC once a water bottle holder is added (Or you can use the stock hydration bladder compartment).
Re: Curious, whats everyone's edc backpack?
i'm currently using a nikon z6ii. i have a temba byob 10 that holds my camera with a 24-70, my old 80-200, and either my new z mount 50 or my old f mount 60 macro lens and ftz adapter. it slips perfectly into my kelty with some room to spare for a few survival items underneath. i wish it had a little more room though. i can also strap my tripod to the outside if i'm hiking to a location for landscape shooting. it's fine for a day hike, but i'm not gonna be a able to camp with that setup unless i leave my camera behind.

Various ones depending on my loadout....Maxpedition, Swiss Army/Victorinox, High Sierra, Kifaru, Kemp...and a couple of others. They all serve their purpose and I've worn out several of various makers over the last 30 years. Pick one that is comfortable and carries your gear oriented to your preferences.

Wow, how is the z6ii? I have several dslr Nikons, a d810, 2 d750s for several years. I just bought the z5 last Christmas since there was a sale on B&H and I got one plus the adapter for a good price. The wysiwyg shooting in mirrorless cameras is great! I found that I didn't chimp as much as I was on the dslrs. Now I barely use the others and primarily use the z5. But I found focusing to be a wee bit of an issue especially in low light. Does the z6ii have better AF?

Vi, this is an interesting bag and its price is reasonable to boot, way lower than Maxpedition and 511. Do you have actual pics of this? I'm interested since they offer reasonable shipping to here, less than 20 euros.

Re: Curious, whats everyone's edc backpack?
my previous camera was a d7000, so i can't compare the af to anything else. it's definitely better, but it still isn't perfect in low light. those pictures probably wouldn't come out anyway. most of my low light photography is astro, so i manual focus anyway.nerdlock wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 5:05 pmWow, how is the z6ii? Re: Curious, whats everyone's edc backpack?
Low price because it is chinese made, but I couldn't tell until I saw the tag inside. It's rugged. Might not be 100% same quality as maxpedition, been a few years since I bought anything of theirs, but it'll last.nerdlock wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 5:08 pmvivi wrote: ↑Thu Jun 03, 2021 3:00 pmhttps://www.varusteleka.com/en/product/ ... pack/34400

Mine is going on 2 or 3 years and looks new. They're an incredible value.
Not the best choice for pure ultralight style hiking as you can find lighter bags with bigger capacity for that, but these are perfect for EDC, casual day hikes, overnighters etc.
There it is with the water bottle holder
Water bladder slot in the back, zipper pouch back there too great for keys wallet etc., main compartment, mesh divider.
chest and waist straps on both sizes.
There's compression straps on the side, I usually use them to hold gear. Straps on the bottom for sleeping pads etc. Large version has compression straps on the top of the pack too.
On the small version the two small pockets on the front have no internal dividers, big version has some pockets sewn into the top pouch.
