A knife design I think is right up spydercos Alley

#1

Post by Eliteone2383 »

So after reading the company history I learned Sal came up with the name spyderco due to his love for high performance cars.

So immediately the name Spyderco Viper came to mind. My thought on the design would be a flipper with red carbon fiber scales with a black carbon fiber center or vica versa. A viper head or fangs embedded in the middle of the black/red carbon fiber and black SS liners. Blade would be cpm20cv with a single fuller running down either side of the blade. Blade length of 3.5. Im not a designer in any way shape or form. That was just the image that popped into my head as I was reading the companies history. Of course all thoughts are welcome :)

it sounds like a cool knife, but it's not something i see spyderco making. they don't do much with carbon fiber, unfortunately.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.

Hmm... Not up my alley, but have you checked out the Spyderco Domino? They did a Red Weave Carbon Fiber model awhile back that is pretty close to what you're looking for.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

Oh, nice! I'm thinking about ordering one from BBS, but I don't love the blue G-10, so I'd probably end up buying a new scale to replace it, which quickly turns this whole thing into a $300 knife. Let us know how you like your Domino?

The red weave CF Domino is nice, I really like mine.

On the other hand, maybe the company could collab with a designer like Elijah Isham or someone else who produces sleek or racey designs.

Life the idea!
Though I don´t think Spyderco would put the viper head on the scales (and I personally would not need it too, but also be not opposed to it) - otherwise this should be a cool looking design.

Just for your info: As far as I know Spyderco does not do in house red scales on sharp knives, since this color is reserved for their (completely dull) trainers (not 100% sure though if this is always true. And (dealer-) exclusives can come in red-ish colors of course)
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

Hi Eliteone,

Viper is a trademarked name. Names are challenging, especially since many are being used by other companies.

Oh I did not know that. That definitely makes things difficult.

I kinda assumed the hundred pacer would have been named some variant of "viper" if there weren't trademark issues.
