I really love these threads - it's a lot of fun to look these older models up. Of everything mentioned so far, my favorites are the Renegade, the Zowada, and the JD Smith. Gorgeous!

It’s still in production but...
The Tusk Mariner. WHY DOES NO ONE TALK ABOUT IT????
I desperately need one.

Going through this http://www.spydiewiki.com/index.php?tit ... rco_C-SKUs is like going through Spyderco (centofante) memory lane
I had a herbst (german made) second and a fish mouse. The spin was also a cool tiny knife

Didn't they do a Sprint Run of that FB03 fixed blade LUM model? The original was done in AUS-8 and I believe that the Sprint Run was done in VG-10.
I had two Dyads even more rare and forgotten than that Micro Dyad>> I had a Burgundy and a Blue-Green ( or Teal) both Dyad Jr C-39 models. I got extremely desperate about 10 years ago and sold them. I got a pretty lofty price as well. But I wish I had those two colored Dyad Juniors back instead though.
That Ti Salsa was the only Salsa with ATS-34 blade steel. And the Titanium handle was superb on that one.

Mr Janich I truly believe that ROOKIE model was probably the most perfect sized and proportioned EDC type folders that Spyderco ever made in my opinion. I'm surprised that Rookie didn't become a permanent model like the Delica, Endura or POLICE.Michael Janich wrote: ↑Mon Sep 21, 2020 7:41 amHey, All:

Oh by the way what blade steel is your Merlin? I got a VG-10 Merlin about two years ago and I've heard the Merlin is very rare in VG-10>> which is why I haven't used it yet :)
Re: Completely Forgotten Spyderco Models: Your Favorites?
There were three FB03s that I am aware of. Black micarta, burgundy micarta and black/green G10.JD Spydo wrote: ↑Mon Sep 21, 2020 11:11 pmDidn't they do a Sprint Run of that FB03 fixed blade LUM model? The original was done in AUS-8 and I believe that the Sprint Run was done in VG-10.

As for the Dyad Jr. Those are quite the rare birds. One of these days I'm going to pick up the micarta and the VG-10 version.

Re: Completely Forgotten Spyderco Models: Your Favorites?
Another plug for the Ocelot and the Navigator. I still have the Ocelot but gifted the Navigator to one of my daughter's years ago.
Re: Completely Forgotten Spyderco Models: Your Favorites?
I really liked that Ocelot model but there was one minor problem that never got fixed with the original OCELOT. Those "paw prints" on the handle/scales ( deep recessed holes in the handle) did not serve well. Because I used an OCELOT one day to field dress some small game animals ( I believe it was some cottontail rabbits). Within a day that knife got to stinking so bad and then I figured out what the problem was. Some of the guts, blood and other residue from the rabbits had gotten trapped in those recessed paw prints and I had to soak it overnight in a strong concentration of DAWN dish soap to get all of it out.
If they ever re-make a Sprint Run of the OCELOT and make it with a standard, solid handle I would be glad to own one again.
Re: Completely Forgotten Spyderco Models: Your Favorites?
I've thought for years that the MOUSE, SPOT and SPUR models would have made great Sprint Runs for some of Spyderco's older small bladed models. Maybe someday :) ??
The Renegade, Zowada, & JD Smith all 3 were some of my permanent favorites. I would love a JD Smith with a supersteel blade. As soon as the C-60 Ayoob returns that might just be the next classic I'm going to beat the drums for.
Re: Completely Forgotten Spyderco Models: Your Favorites?
Hey JD,
The Golden Meerkat was only made with the leaf blade and I think in plain edge.

Re: Completely Forgotten Spyderco Models: Your Favorites?
Hey, JD:
Mine is ATS-55, still in the red toothpaste-style box. I also have an ATS-55 linerless G-10-handled Harpy. To be honest, that was the knife I was thinking of when I waxed nostalgic for the Merlin. Functionally, the first-generation Tasman Salt WAS a Merlin with an H-1 blade. I'm just a sucker for the old-school, grippy G-10 handles with chamfered edges--like on the G-10 Police, Rookie, and Harpy.
The intertwined evolution of the Harpy/Merlin and their variants is documented best on Spdiewiki: http://www.spydiewiki.com/index.php?title=C08_Harpy.
Stay safe,
Mike
