Those are some nice-*** micarta scales. Surprised to see mirror finish on 4V too, I just don't have the tools or the patience for it yet :) if it wave-cuts and makes paper ribbons I'm fine

Thanks! The scales are made of terotuf from Fireside, which I highly recommend - they're excellent scales from an awesome small business. Terotuf is quickly becoming a personal favorite, as is 4v steel. I decided to put a bit of a polished edge on it for fun, and I'm pleasantly surprised how sharp it's stayed.

Sure is! The byrd serrations my favorite. They are smoother, less snaggy, easier to sharpen, and generally feel less "thick" than the Seki models.

How do you find V-Toku 2 compares to Super Blue? They seem to be very similar steels.

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??
The edge on this Dragonfly seems to last longer on this compared to the Super Blue/ Caly Jr. Obviously I haven't done any SERIOUS cutting with it, but it has no problem with cardboard/tape/thin strapping. My wife likes to use it sometimes when cutting up cheese and pepperoni for crackers if it's sitting on the counter. I shudder hearing it slam into the cutting board sometimes, but never any damage that a little touch up doesn't fix. Sharpens like a dream of course! The Meat man wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2020 6:14 amHow do you find V-Toku 2 compares to Super Blue? They seem to be very similar steels.

Congrats Rick, can't go wrong with 4V! St. Nick's can't go wrong with those combos either.

Cultivating shiitake. Did some three years ago and had great results. Used beech then and am using Hop Hornbeam and Sugar Maple this time. Also a single piece of cherry as an experiment.JuPaul wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2020 9:25 amAre you hunting mushrooms or cultivating them? That's awesome! A friend of ours has a little mushroom farm and gave us a few Oyster blocks, which we spread out in our woods. Hoping the ones that sprout from the block will spread spores elsewhere. Fingers crossed!bearfacedkiller wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2020 10:04 amCultivating shiitake. Did some three years ago and had great results.
