Well, this one will never replace my beloved grey G10 Para3 in CPM-Cruwear

Not really in the Para 3 camp, but THAT one looks cool... :)

Re: Para 3 lightweight
From what I remember, the blade on the Sage 5 and Para 3 are pretty similar in thickness?

Sage 5 lw 3 mm, Para 3 LW 3.7 mm ... that's more than 20 % thicker stock...

Re: Para 3 lightweight
I had to do some unforseen plumbing today and the knife clipped in my pocket happened to be the Para 3
LW. It was used to de-burr the inside of a copper pipe and to cut some PEX tubes off of their metal ends (the tension straps were removed with Vice-grips), this brought the edge and tip in contact with brass (which the tip cut groves in/through at several places) repeatedly, all with no visible damage, even to the tip. My take-away from this is that CTS BD1N has very decent edge stability and also the P3LW is plenty tough for EDC tasks like cutting heavy PE tube and shaving off small amounts of softer metals. It may not have felt quite as solid in hand as the G10 version, but I never felt the handle flex and the lock was confidence inspiring.
Another observation: BD1N strops back to a razor edge *very* easily!

I'm liking my P3LW! BDN1 seems pretty good too. I've cut a bunch of cardboard with it the past couple weeks and I'm kind of surprised that there's aren't any scratches on the blade.
Of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most!

Re: Para 3 lightweight
Mine broke down and pieced up some boxes today and picked up it's first scratches. Lost it's shaving edge and will probably need a touch up this weekend. Seemed like I had a little bit of a wire edge on it from the factory as I could feel it after some cutting earlier this week.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

I don’t know, maybe I’m lucky but my PM3LW is about perfect.

Re: Para 3 lightweight
I really like mine as well, didn't want to though! Wanted to like the model, sell it and wait for a couple sprints/exclusives in steels or colors I don't already have...but having a hard time telling myself to sell this one just yet.

Has anyone else here noticed that it's different? Has Spyderco mentioned this publicly, somewhere, and I have just missed it?
I get at least 2 Spyderco knives a month, so I'm pretty current, and have never seen printing like this before.
When tilting the blade back-n-forth in the light. I see a blue/green sort of reflection. It looks very nice, and have to think that they either got a new machine, and are now getting this look by accident. Or, got a new machine to print/etch like this on purpose, to help with the fight against clone knives, going forward.
Thoughts?
I noticed it too. I think it looks great. I like how the back of the blade has the etching curved around the pivot too.

Re: Para 3 lightweight
Well, the bloom is off my Para 3.
I touched it up on a Sharpmaker. The 40* angle was perfect on the apex of the edge.
I don’t feel I used it hard. I just open boxes. Cut a few zip ties. But it felt a little dull.
The BD1N steel sharpened right up. With just the brown stones it would shave hair again. I went all the way to ultra fine and now it’s what I would consider scary sharp.
To me it seems similar to VG-10. I’m still going to carry it as my work knife. I like that it disappears in the pocket even when wearing basketball shorts.

Re: Para 3 lightweight
For the love of me I can't get my para 3 lightweight centered. Love the thing but this bothers the **** outta me. I don't mind shipped uncentered knives but when I can't adjust it out I go mental.
Any tips? It favors the lock side.

Re: Para 3 lightweight
Have you tried to totally dissemble it and start from scratch? I believe there is a video out there of Eric Glesser doing so. I feel your pain, off centered blades really kick my OCD into another gear. Wish you the best.

3 times. Exact same every time.
Re: Para 3 lightweight
Touched mine up today on the medium and fine. Didn't take much time at all to get it really sharp again. I wish this knife was released 4 years ago... Would have saved me a lotttt of money lol
