Are you doing it with the blade in the open/locked position? That seems easier to me. Is the spring in the right way or is it backwards?

managed to get it back together. i can screw the clip in left handed but not right handed.

.......

anyone want a stretch? im over this knife.
I just don't fucking understand this dumb knife.

I checked that I could get the clip screws in the liners before I assembled the knife.

I double checked that I put the other liner in the right side scale than last time.

Fight this dumb knife getting it back together for the fifth time, and the screws just won't go in. Again. But they'll screw into the left.

Seriously, PM me if you want this knife. I don't want to ever see another Stretch again.
Thx for the offer.

This is the dumbest thing I have ever seen happen with a knife.

I can screw the clip on LH tip up.

I can screw the clip on LH tip down.

I can screw the clip on RH tip down.

I can screw the clip screws on RH tip up.

But if I try to screw the clip AND screws on RH tip up, it doesn't work.

What the **** is this bullshit?
Been there, dont that.
Thats why Spyderco discouraged us to take the knives apart :)
I can sense your frustration - you have my sympathy.
On some knives, I suspect warped liners/liners not fitted in the correct manner.

Took a Delica apart and was about to give it away as well.
Had the same problem with the clip screws as you.

Then later took a Yo2 apart to swap scales and feared the worst but it was the easiest knife to take apart and put back together ever.

I fully understand why Spyderco recommended NOT taking the knifes apart (after having messes with several knives myself).

Try this. Assemble pretty much as in your picture except leaving out the lockbar and lockbar pivot. Add blade pivot washer, blade, 2nd blade pivot washer, other liner and scale. Insert male screws into all three backspacer females, and pivot female. Tighten two rearmost screws leave front backspacer screw and pivot screw a bit loose. With blade in open position, insert lockbar, place knife on hard surface with blade off edge of surface, insert female lockbar screw as far as it will go, press lockbar into place (lots of pressure required), insert female lockbar screw rest of way (may take a few tries and a LOT of cussing).

Alternate method, put knife together without blade, leaving pivot screw a bit loose. Use zip tie to hold lockbar in "blade release" position. Afix washers to blade with a bit of grease. Use large screwdriver blade to open the gap between liners. Add blade and washers, insert pivot screw. Once again, may take a few tries and a lot of cussing. You may need to use a pin, needle or toothpick to fiddle the washers into place before inserting pivot screw.

Sorry for you, that sounds really annoying.

Never had to take a Stretch apart, so I am no help here.

I was just thinking: If it would be generally that hard to put together a Stretch or a similarly constructed Endura / Delica, we would have most likely more posts like yours.
So could it be that unfortunately just your particular copy / exemplar (don´t know the correct term) has a flaw (and not the Stretch generally)?
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):

-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

Put the handle togeather and leave the pivot out.
I have found it easiest to put one washer in,put the blade in then push the other washer in using a business card.

I personally prefer a different method but I can’t adequately explain.

The "nevermind"-editing is totally fine of course, but JUST in case this turns out to be a warranty-issue it'd be good to know. Because that would help to be sure if it is GENERALLY a very bad idea to disassemble a Stretch or just in case a particular exemplar has a flaw.

Probably no harder, but probably no easier either. Just a lot more Enduras and Delicas out there than Stretches. Midlocks tend to be a PITA to put back together compared to other locks.

I know I've had my Stretch apart but I don't remember it being difficult. For what it's worth my Native 5 is very easy to get back together. You should be able to get it to stay together without the liner and scale on and it not fly apart.
