The official statement from Spyderco I read, said it was to create anticipation.

Actually, I doubt this forum had much to do with the change in policy. I highly suspect it was driven by dealers/distributors who had to handle all the inquiries/complaints about why a knife wasn't out yet when it was in the catalog/mid-year supplement and/or on their website. Those of us who frequent this forum are much better informed than the majority of Spyder buyers. Most only become aware of a new model or variant when they see it in a catalog, or on a dealer's website.

From 1.1.2018 to 2.17.2018 there were 6 new models released compared to 5 this year. However, from 2.18.2018 to 2.28.2018 there were a whopping 6 other new models released.

I'm sure things will pick up in March 2019.

Only 6 new models YTD is relatively low.

For comparison, all 92 new models in 2018 by month delivered (averaged nearly 8 a month):

They may have slowed their production due to quality control issues? I know that I received some knives last year that were very un-Spydie like in their lack of quality and attention to detail.

I just want my bowies and paysan. I even bought a blue fluted millie due to lack of any new(old in this case) knives with holes in them.

I have not experienced this but I am of the school of take your time and get it right rushing results pleases no one.

I think sometimes the collector club doesn't always get theirs first I think it recently happened that way with the kopa sprint

SG88 is correct about CC members not necessarily getting models first before the non-CC ones are released (though that’s not typical). Sadly, there were no CC versions of the SS Kopa which bummed me out greatly since I really wanted just one variant with my CC number on it.
