All of my designs are to hold and use. I'v added some novelty in some of my designs, like the "Q". Sometimes I'll try to add an attractive handle like on the Chaparral. But in general, I'm all about high performance, Ergos, safety. That's why I've been accused of "deigning in the dark". That's why we have outside collaborations. Also Eric is better than I am about designing attractive models. He's just a better artist than I am.

sal
I've never really thought of anyone's designs as better than the other, but I've always noticed a distinct difference between Eric and Sal's designs. Sal's knives are definitely all about the ergos and utility, Eric incorporates a lot of the same but he's great at making stuff for the knife junkies and chronic flippers, lol, like the Domino, Mantra, PM2 etc. I guess that's what makes Spyderco knives great, Eric + Sal + lots of outside collaborators equals a ton of variety, something for everyone.

The world will be left without a stand up man and great innovator when Sal decides to finally step down for good.

Out of all the people memorialized for their innovations in the knife community, Sal should be held in the highest echelons. I say that now so that he knows people recognize him. Often kudos come too late to mean anything but to the family of the actual contributor.

Hi Zatx,

The Gauntlet is already in house. FRN base, fine ceramic and CBN rods. Should be released soon. I believe they're working on packaging and instructions.

Hey Possum,

It was an off-the-wall design that I came up with many years ago. At the time, we couldn't do it. Technology just wasn't there. As time went on, we were able to sneak up on it with designs like the Pro-Files and the Duckfoot. When the technology was there to make it, we just did it despite the cost, primarily because it was just such a unique piece. It's never really been pushed hard in its evolution, just steadily from yours truly.

We are talking about the new Sharpening System right? This is a little hard to follow. Hope it comes out soon, can't believe I am looking at a tormec.

Sharpening equipment is both a slippery slope and a deep rabbit hole. ;)

On the Golden Stone. On Cliff Stamp forum. :)
Nice review from Nick. He's right, I do need o do a tutorial. We're working on a CBN version (Duckfoot Embryo) and a base to convert the stone to a 30 degree. When they are ready, I'll do a video. The actual design was created when the Sharpmaker was designed back in '78, but the technology wasn't there to make it. We finally patented it when we could make one.

Hi Landon,

I'm carrying a P4 FRN, K390, plain edge. The handle is made from the molds.

Since Connor (Meat Man) already posted the link, I'll just add a helpful tip for the future.

The little up arrow next to a quoted person's name is a handy hyperlink to where that post originated from. The up arrows aren't always available, depending on how the quote was formatted, but these days, they're pretty common.

Hi James,

My plan for the FRN P4 is: VG-10 ( black ), ZDP ( British Racing Green ), K390 ( midnight blue ).

sal
Hi Sal,

I think a possible improvement you could make on the P4 is replacing the stainless steel back spacer with a lighter G10 version.

Cheers!
The back-spacer on the FRN model is FRN, like the Endura. 117.6 gms. 4.15 oz ) 4.4" blade - skeletonized nested liners.

Interesting. I would have thought the LW would have dropped more weight than 0.5oz. The FRN Endura weighs .8oz less than the G10 variant. Regardless, this one will likely be an insta buy for me.
