Comparable to a Sage2?
Comparable to a Sage2?
I have a Sage2 for my weekend carry but would like something comparable for my weekday work carry. Needs to stay at 3”. I would like to have something other than a Sage. Thanks.
Re: Comparable to a Sage2?
Comparable purpose, materials or lock?
Re: Comparable to a Sage2?
Materials and local.
Re: Comparable to a Sage2?
Have you considered the Para 3? The forthcoming Para 3 LW might be a good choice. The Native 5 is a good one to consider too.
Of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most!

The not-cheap Advocate?
Frame-lock, titanium handles, like the Sage. M4 blade steel is more wear-resistant if less corrosion-resistant than the Sage’s S30V.
Though you lose half an inch, look at the Techno2, as well.

What Titanium RILs are there in the line up, and under 3"?
Advocate is too long. SpydieChef is too long. Nirvana is too long.
Mantra is just a shade too long, but if your 3" blade limit is legally imposed, that won't work either.
I'd say that narrows it down to the Techno 2.
If you're willing to change to a back lock, you could look at the Ti Chaparral. It meets your material and length requirements, but not the lock.

How about a Brouwer?
Re: Comparable to a Sage2?
Tom’s right about the Advocate’s length. Spyderco’s filter let it show in the 3” and under category and led me astray. :o

Re: Comparable to a Sage2?
FWIW, the Chap also has the most similar ergonomics to the Sage. It's really a fantastic EDC when you need to stay under 3".
Re: Comparable to a Sage2?
I will check those out, thank you.
Re: Comparable to a Sage2?
The Mantra is 3.16 and I don’t think I would get fired for that. That may be the next one.

The Mantra 1 is a fantastic knife.
You will not be disappointed.

Brouwer? It's a titanium frame lock (but with a G10 show side) with S30V (but a bit shorter), and it's made in Taiwan.
Re: Comparable to a Sage2?
Another vote for the Chap.
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

Sage 5 is pretty nice. My favorite from the Sage series.

Re: Comparable to a Sage2?
So far it looks like you'd have to make a compromise for a different knife. If you want to sacrifice the frame lock than you could go with one of the other sages or a chaparral LW. If you were ok with slightly different economics than a brouwer sounds like a good choice

Don’t forget about the Delica. It’s tried-and-true and under 3 inches.
I know it’s not a liner lock but give it a try.
