Glad you enjoy it Bloke! You're one of the guys I've been waiting on to hear your thoughts, as I know you give your knives some use. A month ago or so I gave a quick break down of using my Rex45 Para 3, helping a friend on his father's farm...couldn't have been more impressed. Having this steel in the Military has to be incredible. Really hoping Spyderco applies this steel to more models. Wishing I grabbed one of these as well, instead of just the Para 3.Bloke wrote: ↑Sat Dec 15, 2018 7:21 pmHey Connor, those sticks are good ole Aussie Eucalyptus hard wood, dead fall. The Meat man wrote: ↑Sat Dec 15, 2018 7:45 amHow are you liking that REX Millie Bloke?
That's pretty much what I've been doing with mine so far. I've yet to really push the limits of the steel, but I like how it has performed so far.
Btw what kind of wood is that?
Fair to say I’m duly impressed with Rex45. I idly whittled for over an hour turning sticks to chips, muscling through dry knots and cutting cross grain. The knife still has the factory edge which came typically Golden sharp and I figured now would be the time to find any weakness before I reprofile it. To my surprise I see no chipping or damage to the edge in anyway even though I purposely put (reasonable?) lateral force on the blade breaking out chips.
What impressed me most was after cutting all the hardwood and a bit of cardboard the edge seemed as sharp as when we started. Rather than go to the SharpMaker I decided I’d give it a light strop on chrome oxide on stiff leather. After half a dozen light strops it was sharp enough to slice cut cigarette paper, pop arm hair and dry shave my face.
Early days yet but if stopping is any indication of how Rex45 responds to sharpening this one’s a winner. :)

Nothing cutting related.. Changed the battery in my Altimeter-watch, and had to put the unruly sealing ring in place by using the Tip of my Delica FFG
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

Mule Team 27, stripped bark from old, wet hardwood logs before they went on the fire. So far so good with the Carpenter PD-1

I'll be be breaking down a ton of cardboard at some point today. Debating what knives to use. Haven't done any serious cutting with my GB2 or StNicks Para 3. I think I'll see how the M4 and 4V hold up against one another. Obviously different grinds, blade lengths and finishes...but been looking for an excuse to use these 2 extensively.

Yeah it is pretty quick to take a patina! Not quite as quick as my Super Blue Caly Jr but a lot faster than either CPM M4 or Maxamet in my experience. Of course, blade finish might have a lot to do with that too.
So far I am really enjoying using this knife. I'd call it the flagship of the Seki City models. Very smooth and solid!

Agreed I am liking it on par with my Militaries and that is saying something, It does indeed Patina faster than my M4 Millie did.

Opening a blister package after cutting up boxes all day with a Carribean Salt SE. Thing is a slicing machine and believe it or not I am getting used to the bright colors a coworker even saw it an exclaimed wow that is really cool looking!

Not even close to a test for that blade!
Try using the ultra fine sharp maker stones on this! I did and this crazy H1 steel loves it!

Yep, that's exactly what I use to sharpen it.
Those UF rods are the best for serrated H-1. When you have a fully serrated edge that's sharp enough to split hairs, you've got a beast of a cutting machine!
