Are you cheating on the bug?
Re: Are you cheating on the bug?
551 is a sort of drop point, 553 is a tanto.

The 553s is the tanto full size partially serrated. It's sold out now but likely be in stock at the same price within a week or so.500Nitro wrote: ↑Tue Nov 06, 2018 5:28 pmWhat's the difference between a 551 and a 553 Griptilian ?Sjucaveman wrote: ↑Tue Nov 06, 2018 9:43 amGriptilian 553s $68 on backcountry.comBornIn1500 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 06, 2018 9:33 amSjucaveman wrote: ↑Tue Nov 06, 2018 9:26 amI carry a griptilian somewhat often lately as well. Where do you see a Griptilian or Mini Griptilian costing less than a Delica? Cheapest I see a Mini Grip is in the mid $80's, meanwhile a Delica is $75.
A 551 for sale for $90

Re: Are you cheating on the bug?
I used to go both ways! Ha. JK. Delica in high school, Buck in college, ZTs and Kershaw's,. Stopped all that and came back to the best there is. Problem is that I can't buy every Spyderco I see/want. Also my 4yr old says on a regular basis , "look daddy you got another knife". He knows the best and he can't even have one yet!

Spyderco only EDC... :D

Re: Are you cheating on the bug?
Those kiddos sure are sharp, aren’t they? I got my kids the glow in the dark plastic Delica kit. Helps them learn how to be safe with the knife. Then for my girls’ 7th birthday I got them each a Byrd. My 3yo son loves my knives and always wants to hold them. I’ll let him hold, open, and close them with supervision.SC_PATRIOT wrote: ↑Tue Nov 06, 2018 8:46 pmAlso my 4yr old says on a regular basis , "look daddy you got another knife". Re: Are you cheating on the bug?
I mean, I'm always carrying a GEC. But I'm also always carrying a Spyderco.
Sometimes I carry my Sebenza instead of a Spyderco. Even then I'll have a serrated spydie on me.
I wouldn't say cheating. More of Spyderco +

Re: Are you cheating on the bug?
My regular rotation of EDC knives are:
S110v Para 2
4v Para 3
Kapara
ZDP189 Delica
Gareth Bull Shamwari
Chris Reeve Small Inkosi
Massdrop FF Gent
Benchmade 940-1
The Para 3 and Shamwari seem to get the most pocket time lately though I have a feeling the Kapara will be getting a whole lot of time now. I've had quite a few spydercos come and go that just didn't get enough pocket time. I think the ones I have now are staying though.

Re: Are you cheating on the bug?
I carry 5 knives on me at any given time. 80% are Spyderco. Oh, I replaced the Kershaw for a Zero Tolerance assisted flipper even though it's maybe 3x heavier. The handle and action are just too good while the Kershaw SUCKS.
Can you find it and can it cut?
Re: Are you cheating on the bug?
i really enjoy these. i carry the zancudo every day at work (along with my dragonfly 2 salt se), due to blade length restrictions, and the avispa rotates with my manix 2 lw (along with my pacific salt se), depending on my mood. these are the d2 versions. they are cheaper knives, but i love them. i wish spyderco would offer more stonewashed finishes.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.

Spyderco never came out with an OTF,or am i wrong? The Deacon wrote: ↑Tue Nov 06, 2018 9:36 amNow that I live in place where they're legal, I guess I cheat a little and probably will continue to do so until Spyderco offers a DA/DE OTF auto. Never go out without at least one or two Spydercos on me, most often a Stretch and a Kiwi, but there's generally an OTF with me as well and lately that one's a D-Rocket Zulu.

I don’t own any spydercos currently

Correct, they've never offered an OTF auto, at least not yet. Otherwise, I'd be a lot less likely to "cheat on the bug". :D

Re: Are you cheating on the bug?
Most OTF’s are super expensive with mediocre steel being used. There good quality sure.. but $340 bucks for a HK OTF knife is crazy to me. I’d rather own 2 or 3 other Spydies..

Re: Are you cheating on the bug?
I have more than 100+ knives, half of those being SAKs and Multitools, the other half are mostly Cold Steel (20 something) and Spyderco (16), the rest are one or two Ontarios, KaBars, ZT, BM, and some Chinese brands. :o
I have more CS than Spyderco because I got into them years before I knew of Spyderco, otherwise the story would be reversed, and even though Cold Steel makes up most of my folder collection, my most often carried knives are the Spydies nowadays and ever since my first Salt (one of 13 more that came soon after) :p

Cheating ? Nooo ....
But I do sometimes wonder what my Spydies and the ZT and BB knives do in the dark when the drawers are closed.

Re: Are you cheating on the bug?
I got my first Spyderco this year, but I’ve had a knife of some sort in my pocket for 30+ years...so yea I’m a Spyderco cheat for sure. I love Spyderco, and they are definitely in my top 3.
I live 10 minutes from Benchmade, so I own a bunch of their knives.
The Microtech Socom and Delta are two of the most attractive looking knives ever made...in my opinion, so I own bunch of those. Also have a few OTFs.
The Spydercos have turned into my daily users, and I save the other brands for weekend carry. The Mili never leaves my side, even when I carry other knives, it’s in my work bag with me. Manbug on the keys.
How lame would it have been if I swore allegiance to Benchmade early on and never had the joy of owning my beloved green 204 Mili!
Cheat away, knives don’t have feelings.

Re: Are you cheating on the bug?
I've tried a few brands here and there, but I find the opening hole to be a superior opening method compared to flippers, thumb studs, discs, etc. Every time I try something new, I just end up getting disappointed and sell it because it's not as user friendly.
About the only other brand I carry regularly now are Victorinox SAK's, and that's mainly just for the tools.
