Broken pocket clip screw

#1

Post by J LeeACP »

While moving the clip on my new Paramilitary 2 Brown w/S35, the pocket clip screw snapped and I can't get it out. Anything I can do before contacting customer service? Seems kinda trivial but I don't want to mess up the liner or G10.

Is the knife assembled with lock-tite? If not it should be easy to tear down. You might be able to grab the stub with vice grips and unscrew it. Otherwise you’re looking at drilling it out with a very fine bit on a drill press.

Course, if you were moving it to suit a different carry position, get an extra screw, put the clip where
You want it and don’t worry about the stub.

Like Woodpuppy said except I think you need to pop the lanyard tube to access the liner, something I’d personally be weary of doing.

Yeah I’ve read that the lanyard tubes are swedged a little? Or maybe just real snug. You might just email/call Spyderco, that failure may be straight warranty work. If you can bear to be without it 😂

If I were you, I'd send it to Spyderco. Sounds like a warranty issue, so why risk damaging the knife?

Thanks. Sent email to Spyderco. Not that big of a deal. Sure I will get it worked out. Happened when I was putting screw back in since knife came with clip in tip down position.

This happened to me twice now on a PM2. Same as you, when putting the clip in the new desired position. I don't know what's up with the screws?!

As mentioned, you can always send it to Spyderco.

I was able to remove the broken screw once the liner was separated from the scale. Yes, the lanyard tube can be tricky, but it is not difficult to tap out if you have the right setup.

Good luck!

I wasn't putting a lot of pressure on it so guess maybe just a bad screw. Was afraid to try to take it apart since I just bought this knife 2 weeks ago. Didn't want to make a bad situation worse. Sent to Spyderco this afternoon.

Not what I expected but it's fine. Bought 6 new Spydercos in the last month and sorta think this was a return with the clip in a non-typical position for a new knife. I'll buy more.

Just FYI, but PM2's come with the clip set up for tip down.

I recently bought 5- stainless steel endura 2 knives or C10p knives. They have have the small Phillips screw head and out of the 15 screws on the 5 knives I screwed up the head on 9 of them. These knives had been stored for around 20 years so the Loctite had done its job.I sent an e-mail last week and never heard back from anyone.I talked to Kyle this morning and he will send me some screws in the next few days.He was very easy to deal with.Just hoping it is the right screws.

A clip screw snapped while removing the clip and they wouldn’t cover it? That sounds wrong. It’s not like you’re taking the knife apart, the clip is supposed to be movable.
