Caly 3 EDC perfection? Could we see a compression?

So I just picked up one of these guys in Hap 40 a couple weeks ago, and I have to say that I am smitten. I have way too many knives in general and Spydercos more specifically, but I can't seem to kick this great design out of my pocket. Size, weight, materials, clip, all just scream ultimate EDC. I was just wondering if we could ever possibly see another iteration of this fantastic design and maybe even with a compression lock? I know it's been a year since we have seen one of these in production but I just can't fathom that it will be shelved and forgotten. This is a near perfect EDC design. Thank you Sal!

Compression makes it a lot thicker, which is a loss to me, but I bet they'd sell better than the original did.

I wouldn't buy one because the thin form factor is one of the top 5 attributes for me. But then again, i would buy and try one before I passed final judgement

I've found the Calys making their way into my pocket more and more these days and winning out over the Delicas moist of the time. It really is a great edc knife, I prefer a 3" blade. It just makes me wish for a LW/FRN version, that would be hard to beat for edc.

It's interesting for me to observe how afi's have become more aware of ergos in design in general over the at decade. Also thin is difficult with Compression lock because they work better with thicker blades and longer ramps.

At this time, I don't think the maker can get the Compression lock down. They're getting better, but not there yet. They are also a small shop and capacity for Spyderco is not very large. That's why sprits like the latest Caly jr come in batches.

In the end I just really hope this iconic/definitive design is not abandoned and is subjected to CQI the way every other amazing Spyderco creation is. Once again I love the Caly 3 and first and foremost do not want to see this near perfect abandoned.

Why would you suspect that a 4-way clip would be used instead of a wire clip?

I guess I only have the D4/E4 to compare it to since I haven't held the Chap yet so when Sal compares it to the Endura that's where my mind goes. I really hope I'm wrong.

Yes, there is hope! A LW Caly would be just great, I'd rather the 3, but we can start with the 3.5 I guess. I would absolutely want to maintain the wire clip on either, that is part of the reason the Caly gets put in my pocket

I’d like to add another vote to PLEASE keep the wire clip on an FRN version. Also I think the texturing used on the ukpk fits the Caly model better than the bi-directional used on the seki models. Either way, can’t wait to have some more Caly 3.5 options. Thank you Sal!!
