The irony of needing a knife to cut open the box to get to your new knife.

I’m always impressed by how sharp Spyderco knives come out of the box.
The size was better than I thought it would be, not as nice feeling as My PM2 but still very nice. I also like the look of the scales much better than I thought. I do however have one nit-pick. My hands were a little grimy from work and that grim instantly transferred to the nice white scales.

It made me think it was more suited as a "dressier" knife. I then remembered that I had bought a blue anodized deep carry clip for another knife but had decided not to put it on.

I think it looks good against the Jade scales.

This is my first Para 3 and I love it so far! Out of the box sharpness was great! I did a few light strokes on my Sharpmaker ultra fine stones and it is crazy sharp. I too ordered an aftermarket clip since the stock one is rather average. Overall I'm really diggin' this knife and have added the M4 DLC version on my wishlist.

My MXG deep pocket clip arrived this week and It really does make this knife perfect! It's booted my Delica and CRK small Insingo out of my pocket.

is that clip in the above shots the "plain" finish? And how does it feel in hand? I have an old STR one on my PM2 (I have always liked that style) and a bronze Lynch currently on my jade Para 3, but That one looks better on the jade and I can throw the Lynch on the new green/FDE Para3 instead if that long skinny one feels right.

Yes it is the plain finish. IMO it's more comfortable in hand than the Casey Lynch style and doesn't get caught on things when I brush up against stuff. I have this clip on my jade m4 native and my V-TOKU2 endura as well

Thanks a lot! I think I may order one. It really does make a good visual match, and if the blade picks up some patina it will still match. And deep carry is a must.

Well I’ve just learned 2 things about this knife.

1. It’s really f*ing sharp!
2. It will partly open if you drop it out of your lap as you stand up out of your chair such that the pivot end strikes your tile floor.

I know this because I did just that, standing to move a kid chair over so my 6yo daughter with freshly painted nails could sit down without marring mama’s nail polish job. The timing of the thing was awful, I basically stepped down onto the tip of the blade with my heel as the knife struck the floor and opened partway. It felt like an awful deep ache, not a painful poke, but I knew something was wrong, so I just sort of dove to the couch. By this time blood was pouring out of my heel and I finally realized I’d somehow stabbed myself in the heel. The slice is a little more than a 1/4” so it went in a tad more than that. I wonder if it actually bottomed out in the bone? The downward stepping motion had sort of a jarring sensation, so I think perhaps so. At this point I’m gimping around the house so as to not put any weight on it.

But thank goodness, the knife is fine!!!!

Woodpuppy,
Glad the knife is fine and hope you're alright too. That's kind of impressive and now you've got a story to tell people. I've never heard of anyone accidentally stabbing their own heel.
