Not me. It has definitely piqued my interest though!
I wonder what blade steel it'll have?

Re: Para 3 exclusive at River's Edge Cutlery
Think they would color the blade? PVD on certain lights i've seen lets them color things. Isn't this the process they use for DLC coating as well?
I guess this is how they are coating the back lock of the gold Delica and Endura as well

Physical Vapor despostion (PVD) is the process
DLC ( Diamond Like Carbon) "Black" is one of the many coatings that uses PVD.
We'll have to see what the choose, maybe a different color then black.

Re: Para 3 exclusive at River's Edge Cutlery
Intriguing! I wonder what the steel choice is.
This is probably part of the long line of dealer exclusives of the para 3 to come.
What do we have confirmed so far? the M390 bbs, BHQ M4, Rivers Edge, and ...?

Re: Para 3 exclusive at River's Edge Cutlery
What does PVD stand for?
Re: Para 3 exclusive at River's Edge Cutlery
Yes, I emailed Brian Kent the general manager and got back to me saying he would add me to the list to be notified when they drop. He also the specs on the knife would be released soon. :)

Pretty cool! River’s Edge is one of the few shops I’ve actually visited. I’ll have to budget for this one, I’m sure it’ll be top notch.
Re: Para 3 exclusive at River's Edge Cutlery
Physical vapor deposition.
Normally it's a metal-ceramic coating on the order of some thousandths of an inch thick applied in a vacuum to a metallic surface. It's a process to increase the lifetime of drill bits and endmills, as well as other metal things that benefit from a very hard coating.
Another method of applying such coatings is chemical vapor deposition (CVD)

Re: Para 3 exclusive at River's Edge Cutlery
Does it bond (chemically) with the metal? And if so (I'm assuming it would bond with some much more well than with others), which ones does it bond with best?attila wrote: ↑Sun Jun 24, 2018 4:26 pmPhysical vapor deposition.

If anyone knows.
Re: Para 3 exclusive at River's Edge Cutlery
That's a beyond my limited knowledge of the process. I don't know the precise bonding mechanism. Also, because there are countless combinations of materials that can be used as PVD coatings, and most metals can be coated, I can't answer which has the strongest bond. There's really no way to answer that.Pelagic wrote: ↑Sun Jun 24, 2018 4:32 pmDoes it bond (chemically) with the metal? As I understand it, however, the deposited material remains chemically distinct from the substrate (steel) that it's applied to.
A properly-applied PVD coating will stick to its substrate as if it were the same material and is not likely to be removed by any mechanism besides abrasive or adhesive wear. As wear occurs, the PVD coating will lighten and fade, until the substrate is exposed. That should take a long time in regular knife cutting applications, but I've not tested it, and I don't know what material they are applying via PVD. It also depends on what you're cutting.

This looks very interesting.
Re: Para 3 exclusive at River's Edge Cutlery
I hope it's the glossy black PVD. That's an amazing look.
Re: Para 3 exclusive at River's Edge Cutlery
I hope it's not S90V.. seems to be what a ton of exclusives are..
Re: Para 3 exclusive at River's Edge Cutlery
Yeah. Time for more variety.
