Both Bowies are awesome, they will be winners for sure.
Ankerson, I love your work, and this bowie seems like it'll be the perfect camp knife or big fixed blade to compliment a SAK/Spyderco folder in the outdoors
but in the looks department, this Respect has me drooling all over the place. My Gosh what a knife!!

The paysan looks sweet
Re: Spyderco Knives at 2018 SHOT Show with Eric Glesser
Yeah I guess so. The discussion linked below is what might have led to my confusion. I know there were other discussions regarding peel-ply vs. CF/G10 laminate when the Sage 5 came out.Liquid Cobra wrote:It’s peel ply. You’re just confused.Sharp Guy wrote:Anyone else notice Eric's statement that the CF/G10 laminate used on the Mantra 3 was "peel-ply"? It looks like same material that's used on Sliverax and Sage 5 but, from what others have stated here in the past, that's not considered peel-ply. I certainly don't mind the scales on the Sliverax and Sage 5 but they don't really thrill me either. It would be nice if the scales on the Mantra 3 at least had a little more texture to them.

As soon as I saw the knife in the Knife Center video my interest was piqued. But then people here started talking about the clip placement. Now I'm starting to wonder. Sigh...sonarsessions wrote:I really digged the Smock but am actually pretty interested in the Brouwer - I really dig the lightweight framelock and am interested in seeing this close up. Wonder if these will be out before BLADE. If not, I'd def like to see them close up over there.

Hm...how I wish the Smock and Paysan had options for a left-hand mounted clip! I understand the potential aesthetics/design issue, but one can dream....

Because they think screws look cool on an integralLiquid Cobra wrote:The Paysan... oh man. I’m super conflicted. Why the steel lock bar insert?
They did this for the babies :D
Especially the expert babies on review channels
"boohoo, my Nirvana has lock stick, boohoo"
"boohoo, my Nirvana costs X hundred dollars and has lock stick, boohoo"
Reate's integral has screws
WE has them
So I guess this is the norm now...

I reckon you think it is perfectly ok to you that a "flagship" knife has lock stick and you're a crybaby if you don't?Gsg9 wrote:Because they think screws look cool on an integralLiquid Cobra wrote:The Paysan... oh man. I’m super conflicted. Why the steel lock bar insert?

It is what it is and crying doesn't solve anythingLarry_Mott wrote:I reckon you think it is perfectly ok to you that a "flagship" knife has lock stick and you're a crybaby if you don't?
I'm OK with a bit of lock-stick and overall much better than the screws, it's called compromise
Mine had a bit and went away after a few days
Liquid Cobra said the same about his
I'm sure Rassenti's custom Nirvanas have lockstick when they are built but I presume he just opens them plenty of times before shipping them so that goes away, I presume that doesn't happen in a factory environment
Being an integral you can't heat-treat the lockbar
Lockstick goes away, the screws remain and I still have plenty of years in front of me before going blind...

The 50 shades of cryingLarry_Mott wrote:Live as you learn then.. (The Techno 2 thread)
There's a difference for crying when compromising for not being able to heat-treat a lockbar on a nice integral piece as compared to moving the pocket clip and lanyard hole around just for the sake of it...
But again, that doesn't fix anything :D

No offense, i just found it funny to parallel-read this thread and your "soap box rant" about the Techno. :)
Like, "Is it ok or not to voice opinions on knives, and when does it become whining"

There's no point whining about the mild lock-stick on an integral when they probably couldn't heat-treat it and the alternative with screws from my point of view looks even uglier.Larry_Mott wrote:Like, "Is it ok or not to voice opinions on knives, and when does it become whining"

Compared to complaining about something that can be avoided, like moving the clip around and a useless swedge, again, from my point of view
I cannot explain it any better than this, unless probably have to try some drawing for you...
Otherwise you can voice whenever you want whatever opinions you have on knives
I will end here and you can avoid reading my "soap box rant"s for the future
Loads of Cheers

Was the WaterWay in evidence anywhere? I'm keen to see some in-hand comparisons.

Yes, but will let others comment on it. Not sure how much is free to discuss.

Could care less about all of em but the Mantra 3 and the Paysan. Will probably grab those and maybe a sprint of an old standby if one comes out with carbon fiber scales this year. That should do it for moi this year. Rest of my cash will be on CRK’s I think.
Re: Spyderco Knives at 2018 SHOT Show with Eric Glesser
After further consideration, the only Spyderco that I'm definitely buying is the Rhino. But the Spydie lineup is very impressive, no doubt. Much more impressive than any other manufacturer.
It looks like the Chinese continue to make inroads. I hope they don't squeeze our great American knife cos too hard.

For EDC I'm really interested in Smock and Brouwer. Brouwer is a no brainer pending final specs but a slimmer/thinner/narrower Native5 with titanium frame lock and 3" blade is very appealing.
Respect and AnkerSand Bowies are pure lust like that Darn Dao. The AnkerSand is more appealing due to the weight.
