New Roc acid/stone wash and polished G10 scales

#1

Post by GIGANTORE »

Hi all. I needed a 2nd knife for my carry rotation. I fell in love with the cleaver blade of the Roc. I bought one ($151) and it was supposed to be here today. Turns out it showed up a day early. When I got the notification that it was due a day early, I went to RadioShack for acid, and Harbor freight for a tumbler. I can't express how fast and easy this was to do. While I had it all apart I decided to wet sand the G10 scales.

This was my first attempt at any of these procedures, so be nice.

Having trouble loading pics. They are too large. And can't copy and paste links to host photo site

Yes. That's how I'm copying them from Photobucket. But for some reason it's not letting me paste.

Looks great - thanks for sharing!

Also, you've done a real public service for those of us who didn't know Radio Shack was still around.

Thanks guys. I'm pretty excited since this was my first attempt. I'm currently doing the same treatment to a couple triggers. This effect could be addtictive.
Yeah, Radio Shack is a dinosaur. The one I went to was actually going out of business. So I bought a few bottles.

I just got back from getting it sharpened. The guy did a pretty good job. But he nicked one of the scales with his machine. I was a little pissed but didn't give him a hard time. Just gives me an excuse to take the scales off and redo them. Planning on a higher gloss finish this second go.

I think it looks great, especially being your first mod, the scale color and Polish remind me of the Pattada or Des Horn.

Looks better than any stonewash job I've done. Maybe I should get a proper tumbler and media instead of using a peanut butter jar full of rocks in my dryer lol.

Took it back apart to fix the scale the sharpener guy dinged up. I managed to fix his damage. Figured I would throw the liner and fasteners in the goo while I have it apart. My OCD won't let me do it half assed. I'll be done tonight. Pics to follow.

Very very nice finish!
How long did you soak the blade in the acid?
