Native 5 - the perfect pocket knife?

#1

Post by MAD777 »

I just received a Native 5 lightweight S110V today. WOW!

First of all, let me tell you what I was looking for. I have somewhat large hands and wanted a 4 finger pocket knife that would also fill my palm, all the way to the heel of my hand. There are lots of big, heavy knives that qualify.

But, I wanted it to be as small and lightweight as possible, while fulfilling the requirement above.

It didn't need to be camp knife capable of chopping down a tree. Just the odd task around the office and inside the home. A somewhat smallish blade, without being tiny would do. Oh, and a sharp enough point to pierce plastic packaging, while not being so pointy as to be delicate.

Finally, why not as maintenance free as possible, stainless & seldom in need of sharpening.

BINGO! Native 5 Lightweight in S110V.
For me, it is indeed the perfect knife fitting these criteria.
Like I said, WOW!

The native 5 s110v (in g10) is among my favorite knives right now. I haven't had it very long, but size and ergos are tempting me to carry this one often. I did add a deep carry clip and I am also liking that. Glad you like yours too!

Big Native 5 fan here too! Love the Lightweights! One of these days I'll add a dark blue S110V. Not that I really need it. S35VN is great for my needs.

Not that I don't think it's a great value and a great design, but the ergonomics of the Native 5 have never worked for me. Choil too big, handle too small. Glad you're enjoying it, though!

Hi,

I think any Native 5 would be closer than most at being 'the perfect pocket knife", the Fluted Ti is lovely and I might bevel the edges on my G10 model a little more though! ;)

cheers, John

The Native was the knife that introduced and subsequently got me hooked on Spyderco around ten years ago. Its easily one of my top three favorite knives...I'd love to see Spyderco implement a "custom shop", similar to their competitor, allowing us to purchase these in numerous colors/steel combinations!

Yeah, I have five of them. Two lightweights, two G10 and a fluted Ti. Great knife!

Love the blade and handle shape very much. Liked the knife even more after fitting it with a deep pocket clip. But I find the blade a bit too short for my liking. Slicing fruit like peaches and apples or cutting into a sandwich can get too messy for me. I find the length of the Caly 3.5 just about right, plus it already comes with a deep pocket clip.

Love that Native 5 also, I really wish we could get a slip joint version to carry in the UK. Would be my perfect knife.

I have few Natives as well and love them. NAtives are very comfortable in my hand. I carry 3 of them. Most used is 2013 Forum knife.

modification to the blade wasn't intentional. This is just happened. It is in my pocket now. Broke down few boxes today :)

I agree man. It checks all the boxes for me: ergonomics, weight, blade design and material, and, of course, it looks beautiful.

I used to have a G10/S35VN N5 that I liked quite a bit. Always impressed at what a smooth and solid little package it was, with great ergonomics. It's off somewhere with my ex now. :(

Fortunately, I was able to pick one up in CF/S110V from KW to replace it. :D

Wow! That fluted ti version is eye-popping, and I've always loved carbon fiber, even though I prefer G10 on most of my folders..... Yikes! I gotta stay off these forums! LOL
