That said, I would love to see a SE JD Smith sprint, and I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see the original compression lock Vesuvius brought back with some updates/improvements to the lock and in G10. And, if that same knife were also offered in a wharnie version like the Centofante 4, I would be soooo happy.

Yes, I would really like to see this too. The Centofante 3 and 4 are timeless classics that really deserve a little overhaul/upgrade.

That is such a cool concept. The 100% H1 knife. I am seriously liking the idea.

JAfromMN wrote:Id like to see this one brought back in 100%H1

This topic has sort of come up in the past, and it has been verified that 1) it would cost a LOT of money because of the price and manufacturing cost of H1, and 2) there isn't a need for the handle to even be H1 in the first place, because there are plenty of steels out there that resist rust as well as H1. H1 is used for blades because it also holds a decent edge, while those other steels are merely as rust resistant as H1 and do not hold an edge.

Personally, I would just as well like to see an H1 blade paired with a titanium handle.
Id be just as happy with titanium or any other rust proof metal.

Id also like to see a harpy made the same way.

I've never seen a stainless handle with rust on it with all my eBay trawling. It doesn't need to be H1 to resist rust. H1's unique property is not so much its rust resistance but the fact that it can hold an edge while being very stainless.

I'm not sure if they all fall within JD's "golden era" timeframe, since I'm no expert on that, but here are some of my old-style favorites:

C-44 Dyad
C-69 Li'l Temp
C-60 Ayoob
C-95 Manix (feels like a fixed blade!)
FB-05 Temperance (SE and PE, some of the sharpest knives I own)

I was lucky enough to find some of them on the secondary market.

Wow. Man I wish I hadn't missed that era … as previously stated, I would have a hard time paying collector prices for those that interest me … but having bought it "in the day" and then seeing it gain the recognition you knew it deserved in the first place … there's a sense of satisfaction ...

Nice pieces, all.

I'm really a fan of the old school Spyders. Here are some that came into my possession that I couldn't part with.

Why did the FRN Rescue have that dip in the spine for a while?

Navigator is on my short list. And a Mariner.

What's third from the bottom? I don't recognize that at all.

Wow Landon great pieces, that micarta JD Smith SE is like a holy grail for me, I'd probably pay an embarrassingly high secondary price for one if found.

Agreed (on the great pieces). Regarding the JD, there was a mis/un-labeled one on ebay a while back. If memory serves it still went for a pretty penny, at least more than I would consider paying (since I didn't bid).

I'll try and snap a shot of my skeletonized SE R soon, but for now a little Kris eye candy will have to suffice.

That's an Ironstone exclusive sprint run Walker in blue almite, SKU C22BLP, I think.

Edit: I see that Peter is right, it is not the Ironstone, it was a sprint. :o

The Ironstone Walker is with Black Almite coated Aluminium, yours is Blue Almite coated Aluminium and this was a Sprint Run ten years ago ;)

Well SKATENUT ol' buddy you're just about accurate with the exception of the Manix>> I've had a few of the Manix models but it's just not a blade that I like to use that much>> I much prefer the CHINOOK III over it anyday. But with the C-44 Dyad, Lil T, The hallowed C-60 Ayoob and the ever enduring FB-05 Temperance 1 model are all near and very dear to my heart

Well guys and gals I'm very much enjoying the great input you guys have given to this "Old School Spyder" thread and I knew in my gut I wasn't the only one who admired The Spyders out of the GOLDEN ERA of SPYDERS 1998-2003.

There are a few models I haven't heard mentioned yet like the RONIN, original Perrin and the C-25 Centofante model. But we aren't done yet I'm sure of it.

TVENUTO my friend your heart is definitely in the right place for sure but the KRIS model came in around 05 or thereabout>> but what the heck it's such a great model I'm glad you put it up there for all of us to admire. It's definitely one of the better Recurves>> only the Spyker tops it IMO.

Umm, JD, I actually did post a picture of a C25 (and a C50) on page 1. Here you go. :)

GoldenSpydie wrote:Also, a sprint run of the C25 and C50 Centofantes would be superb. Maybe Super Blue blades (PE) and grey G10 handles? The old Centofantes are wonderful knives, and I think that a sprint would be well received.

Here are the Centofantes. C50 first, C25 second.

I've been meaning to take care of the Vesuvias Spydiewiki page, but haven't gotten around to it yet. One of these day's I'll get the time.

For me the "Golden Era" is more the "Golden Era of Micarta".
There were so many wonderful Spydercos with micarta handles in this time period:
The Goddards, the Calypsos, the C42 Viele, the C34 Jess Horn II, the Zowada, the Shabaria and the JD Smith.
