Thanks,
Little doubt after watching those that it would be declared rightly or wrongly, as a Gravity Knife by many authorities.
Thanks for the links...

If the $64000 question is "Can it be flipped?", I'd have to say yes. :D I want one. Hope it works out.

It's never been classified as it has never been produced before, so we don't know. Our plan is to eventually also make them in Golden.

Does this mean they may be available in the USA in the future?

I had the pleasure of manipulating a Jani-Song prototype at SHOT Show 2014. Easily the most wanted knife on my all-time wish list. It has Mr. Janich's great design and Spyderco's quality build. I will buy more than one.

Googled "Spyderco Janisong" and found a couple sites selling them. One is in Finland, one is somewhere that Chinese characters are used. Am sure there are others as well.

Here is what bothers me. There is no rational, no logical reason why the Janisong or Spyderco Balisong knives should be illegal for responsible persons to own, carry, and use. I would like to see a paper written using solid real-world proofs and facts that prove to the anti knife politicians and anti knife lobby that it MAKES ZERO SENSE to ban a knife like this because of any irrational emotional baggage and perceived fears based on nonsense statements. That SHOULD (in a rational world and in the minds of rational people) be enough to guarantee the right to carry and use knives like the Janisong without fear of arrest, fines, and legal trouble. Note I said SHOULD, not WILL.

I will never understand why butterfly knives are illegal they are not silent or very fast to deploy. But I really don't understand why any knives are illegal but the butterfly really is the one I don't understand at all.

I've mentioned in the opening post that Spyderco has brought to market some of the most innovative locking systems ever, here's a pic with those I enjoy most. From top to bottom:
- Bi-fold
- Meerkat with phantom lock
- T-Mag
- JaniSong
