Take a look at that and I would like your comments: How practical is that in comparison to traditional rounded-beam lights? One of the selling points that these square beam flash light sites seem to make is that you get more efficient and larger coverage of space when lit up, as opposed to conventional lights.

Bushnell is one brand, they are good right?

I think they're a gimmick. I'm pretty sure that they're just cutting off the corners to create a square pattern, and that you're actually losing light. As an analogy look at cameras: They still use circular lenses and the film frame or sensor records a rectangle out of the center. These square beam flashlights seem to essentially do the reverse.

Bushnell is okay.

I can’t think of any advantage of a square beam. Zero hotspot, yes, square no.

Not sure what the problem is that this supposed to solve.

There's plenty of projector-type lights that have no dark patches already- why make a square one?
Warhammer 40000 is- basically- Lord Of The Rings on a cocktail of every drug known to man and genuine lunar dust, stuck in a blender with Alien, Mechwarrior, Dune, Starship Troopers, Fahrenheit 451 and Star Wars, bathed in blood, turned up to eleventy billion, set on fire, and catapulted off into space screaming "WAAAGH!" and waving a chainsaw sword- without the happy ending.
