Another one to tick off the grail list! :D

Post by DutchBlades »

We all know the feeling of getting your grubby hands on a knife you've been wanting for a long time :p
The Spyderco Phoenix was one of those knives for me.
The (heavily underrated) product of a custom knife maker with a unique design and Spyderco's quality we've all come to love.

I've had the chance to pick one up a few years back and was still kicking myself in the head for not doing so (seeing how the price shot up)...
But I managed to add one to the collection today in mint condition! :D

Image

What's the last grail you guys/gals purchased?
A tiger has claws.
A wolf has teeth.
An eagle has talons.
We, have Spyderco.

Grails: Abalone Mini Mariner, Ti ATR, WTC, Ti Lum Tanto

Congrats on the Phoenix. It looks fantastic.
I don’t really do grails. Last few I picked up:
Hundred pacer, spyderhawk salt, black and green Lum tanto fixed blade.

Nice!
This is my recent grail
Micarta Calypso Junior
Nice one!
The pain of paying a really high customs fee when picking up my Calypso still haunts me...
The Calypso and the Calypso Junior are like the Delica and Endura that fly under people's radar for some reason...
Great knives and the micarta versions are beautiful!
(sure are getting harder to come by though  )

Nah, it's a little something I made a few years back from wires, paracord and black/red radiator paint for some knife photos.
But it does look convincing enough to scare the bejesus out of a sleepy girlfriend! :p

It's a model that's really unique and stands out from the crowd, yet a lot of people don't seem to know it.
Glad to share it with you!
It's a love it or hate it design, but I sure love it :)
The frame is titanium with cream micarta onlays.
Gives it a reall classy look which goes surprisingly well with the design!

If you like the onlay look, you might like the Spyderco Viele as well.
There's two sizes, but both of them have the micarta onlays and were made in a collaboration with the same custom knifemaker; Howard Viele.

Latest grail:
Anniversary Delica
Ah, the Anniversary Delica... That's becoming a real unicorn of a knife nowadays...
Those mosaic damascus bolsters are just pure art.
Congratulations on getting one! :D

Thanks Sal!
The collection contains quite a lot of grails by now, but I'm not done and don't think I'll ever be!
I've updated my forum signature by taking out the Phoenix, but I have a feeling knives are more likely to be added than to leave the little list :p
I just have a weak spot for certain designs this was definitely one of them.

I remember holding it and the fluting felt pretty amazing on carbon fiber :D

I'm a fan of the hawkbill blades on the Superhawk/Harpy/Merlin, so might pick up a Spyderhawk Salt one of these days.
Nothing beats a serrated hawkbill when cutting cording or rope and they just handle reallly nice and predictable.
And Tanto's are always good in my book :p
Love my gray G10 Lum Tanto, but the Ti version is yet another one of my grails...

But no grails, huh? No knife which you've hunted down for a long time and won't ever get rid of?

I've got a grail, but I haven't seen one posted for sale in years. Foliage green C95 sprint. Wouldn't mind a green Perrin bowie to match :)

Congrats on the Phoenix DB!

That Anniversary Delica is stunning Larry!

Congrats also Spydergirl! I recently grabbed a beater-grade serrated micarta Calypso Jr, but I'm not sure how long it'll hold me. :o

My recent grail purchase is a white micarta Jess Horn II. Not mint, but the upside to that is that it's been in my pocket as a user since I got it:

Image

...the downside is that I now feel the need to track down the black and burgandy micarta versions, and it makes me want to beg Sal for a ffg g10 sprint. :D

I'd gotten to the point where I thought I'd seen them all, but wasn't aware of this sprint until you mentioned it in the other thread. Certainly looks like a worthy grail, best of luck in your search!

The original Manix is showing it's face less often on the secondary market and sprints are never too easy to find...
Let the hunt begin I'd say! :D
If I happen to see one, I'll send a PM your way.

Let's hope the Delica will treat you right and keeps you occupied in the meantime :p

I know of a guy who was looking to sell his burgundy C38 a few years ago, but it's the FRN version.
The micarta versions are way nicer IMO, but if you want, I can always shoot him a message to see if he still has it ;)

Great looking knife for sure!
And I really like the vertical zebra stripes towards the tip.
Gotta love damascus and the fact that every blade is truly unique :)

Oh, going down the Jess Horn road is a rocky and expensive one. So worth it though!

Tempting, and thanks for the offer!, but I'm most interested in the micarta versions at the moment.

...and in the same breath, man is that a sweet collection! I just know there's no way I'd be comfortable tracking all those down at today's prices. I got an insanely lucky break on what I paid for the white micarta Horn.
