Damaged screws and pocket clips.

#1

Post by Pickmansmodel82 »

So I’ve been collecting and using spyderco products for a couple of years and recently ran into a problem I’d like to ask for some help on.

I bought a Toku stretch 2 sprint run, and as normal for daily users I went to install an aftermarket deep carry clip, using the OEM screws. I cleaned any lock tite or residue off the screws, positioned the clip and drove them in.

On the third screw the driver slipped and completely rounded off the Torx head. This is entirely user error, and possibly not the greatest tool being used *BM blue box bit*.

That being said, what would be the best course of action? With larger screws and different materials i could just drill out or drive a chisel into the head to make a jerry rigged slot head but before I start I want to ask if anyone has had experience with this they’d like to share.

Since it's only one of the three screws, remove the other two, and loosen the 3rd screw by rotating the clip, until you can reach the screw head with pliers. Be patient and don't scratch the scales.

Feriders suggestion should work. If not, cut a slot into the screw head with a dremel cuttoff wheel, tighten down the other 2 screws and undo it with a flat head screwdriver.

Super glue a Torx in to the rounded head leave overnight tighten the other 2 the next day and loosen the superglued one.
Clean Torx with nail polish remover.
Works all the time on fishing reels I repair with stripped screws.
Im a vegetarian as technically cows are made of grass and water.

After it's out call Spyderco and they should be able to get your screw replaced.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)
