Sal, DLC M-4 Jade Military satin spacers

#1

Post by KME_USER »

Hey Sal,

I have 55 Spyderco knives and I purchased two of the Blade HQ Exclusive DLC Jade Military’s. Why did the two barrel spacers not get a black coating? The stop pin, screws, and lanyard hole were coated. It looks like an unfinished knife with two satin barrel spacers along side a black stop pin and lanyard hole. I think the liner should be coated as well just like the Manix 2, but the spacers being satin looks like a mistake. I’m trying to understand why. Great knife, but disappointed with the satin spacers. I wish you’d look at one to remind yourself how crazy this looks — looks unfinished. I’m sure there’s a reason for this because I can’t imagine anyone not agreeing these need to be black.

Love your knives,

John M. Runyon (big fan)

I noticed that in a video. I agree, it's not ideal.

I believe that all of the bhq exclusive para series have satin standoffs. Dlc or not. My s90v dlc yo2 does too. As well as stock s30v blacked out para models. I think it was mentioned in another thread that the Southard is the only model to come with dlc standoffs. A nonissue for me, but I get why people are curious why.

Sal mentions it in the Military Jade M4 DLC thread:

Hi KME_USER,

Welcome to our forum.

Satin and black make a nice contrast. Not everyone wants all black?

Doeswhatever,

With manufacturing, there are always many things to consider.

The size of the market?
Opportunity for others to earn income?
Ours may be more expensive due to overhead?
Inventory?
Capacity?

I personally love the contrast and think it's perfect! You can mod the knife ( paint /coat yourself ) to your preference very easily. :)

I wish we could all get what we want in a folder, then the world would be a perfect place!

Also, I thought you void the warranty for modding or customizing a knife.

The BladevHQ Manix 2 is all black. I wonder what the difference is?

Can't people that aren't happy with the satin backspacers just removed them and paint them black themselves? Shouldn't be too difficult, plus they don't see much wear on the knife considering where their positioned. Should be an easy fix that only needs to be done once.

Ideally I'd want all hardware and liners to be black with DLC blades. Personal preference.

This.

Or get a group of people together who want them DLC'd and send them all off in a batch (to reduce the cost of DLC for such a small part).

A well done blacked out knife can be hard to find.

This is one way to get it right.
